Hello All,
This is my first post to your forum. Happened upon it while doing some "internet" searching looking for implement manufacturers. Looks like a great forum with a wealth of useful information and discussion. So first off, did I do O.K. with what I just ordered from my local J.D. dealer? Here's what I got:

J.D. 4400 tractor 4 X 4 with hydrostat drive, 430 loader, mid-mount pto, R4 tires and tall folding rops for $19700.00. Land Pride 1560 rotary cutter, Land Pride 2064A roto-tiller, and Land Pride 2561 box blade for a "package" price of $3500.00.

How does that compare for different areas of the country? Now all I have to do is chomp at the bit till it all gets here at the first of next week. Look forward to your advice and expertise in the near future as this is my first compact tractor (other than a J.D. 318 that I've had for 12 yrs.) and I'm sure I'll have some questions for you all.

Thanks,
Hoss

Hoss, I'm not up to date up the prices, so no opinion there, but that sure sounds like a nice overall package, and welcome to the group.

Hoss,

Welcome!

Don't know about the JD 4400 pricing, but the Landpride implement pricing seems pretty darn good.

As far as asking questions, I'm a recent CT buyer and had tons of questions. Just fire away. Guaranteed that you get some responses. Also, just grab your favorite beverage after a long day of playing, errr working, with your tractor and cruise the message threads. Tractors from A-Z and everything else in between.

Good luck and have fun with your new purchase,
Terry

Welcome Hoss,

In case you did not know, JD's website shows the list price on their tractors and maybe attachments at this point. Its not a resource I had available when I was buying. You can at least compare the price you paid for the tractor with list.

Hi Dan,
Yup, I'd already done that before I even talked with J.D. Biggest problem I see with their web site "tractor builder" is that I considered the fel to be an integral part of the tractor and yet no way I've found on the site to add it to the price of the tractor. While it's listed as an available attachment, it's not listed on the "accessorize" screen that includes those items in the running total of the tractor. The tractor I built on their site was a little over 22,000.00 without the fel. Since I was paying only 19,700.00, including the fel, it sounded like a fair price, but I was just curious how it compared around the country. I had found one dealer that was about $150.00 less, but he was around 200 miles away, so transportation costs would have eaten up the difference.

Thanks for the reply. This really is a great site and what I've learned in just the last week is already more than I knew about compacts.

Hoss,

Hang around in the Rural and Off Topic areas and you will learn lots of other things besides tractor related topics. Usually if I have a question about something like log homes, radient heat, etc., without fail some one will bring up the topic if I dont. I'm constantly amazed by the quality of the answers.....

TBN is a great source of information on many topics besides tractors.....

Welcome and have fun....

CVHoss:
Welcome to TBN. I priced a JD4300 a year ago with the same options and got about the same price as your 4400. I think you are doing well. You are entering the end of the tractor selling season in most areas and probably have a bit more leverage.
As far as the implements: I don't know the width for a 4400 with R4's. Brochure lists a 50" minimum wheel width with ag tires. You are probably OK with the R4's but check. I strongly recommend implements at least as wide as the tractor. The pricing otherwise is very good.

Radman,
I had the dealer look it up when I was ordering it, but not quite positive now what the actual measurement was. I do remember it was less than 60". So far, the only attachment that won't cover the tire width is the 5 ft. brush cutter. I opted for the 5 ft. cutter as the farm where the wife's horses are has a lot of trees on the property. Don't want to lose the trees, but wanted to be sure that if the tractor fit, so would the cutter.

Thanks for the welcome!/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
