Just purchased a $20 fire extinguisher to mount somewhere on my tractor. Cheap insurance policy that could save thousands. I was thinking of mounting it on the ROPS but not sure... any suggestions. Where does everyone else have theirs mounted?

The kind you would want for an electrical fire or a fuel fire is a dry charge. Powder and CO2. On your hay baler you might want a few water extinguishers.

In winter weather would one of those things freeze up and render it useless?

Dry chems won't freeze! Although the powder may settle & pack due to vibration on a vehicle. Won't hurt to turn it upside down & shake it occasionally.

I mounted mine on the ROPS, clamped to the post with two straps & long bolts; ~~ grnspot110

A general purpose fire exinguisher that is rated to fight all three types of fires, wood and paper, electrical and flamable liquids is filled with a white powder and is pressurized with dry nitrogen. It will not freeze.

that's where I mount mine.. on a rops upright. just use zipties to hold the oem bracket tot he rops.. or a band clamp.. etc.

I mounted mine on the right side of the dash using large fender washers to give some backing strength to the plastic dash

Two BC extinguishers, one on each side of the tractor and a large ABC extinguisher on the gooseneck transport trailer.

Good point. I'm delaying a decision to obtain a couple of extinguishers about 2 years already :mur:

i'm glad this post came up. i keep my f450 'toy getter' all full loaded ready to crank up, hitcht he gooseneck and head out to collect tractors I keep it ready with spare fuel, tools, winch, jack, air, extra rmaps.. lubes. irons.. tons of straps.. etc. anything I think I might need broke down on the side of some interstate in another state, or trying to get a finicky tractor loaded. one thing I had overlooked was a fire extinguisher... even had the first aid kit, maps and all.. flashlights..e tc..

glad it came up. I went and got the extinguisher tonight.. :)

I can see the value of having a fire extinguisher at the ready. I work in wooded and brushy areas. Any one have any problems with getting caught in the brush and have an inadvertent discharge? I am thinking of the BX24 fans that get damaged and wonder about how to keep something similar from happening to a fire extinguisher.

yep.. you want a good positive holder with a neck cradle, and a snap open body strap.. the lil flimsy ones won't hold up as well on an ATV like a tractor....

Mine is mounted on the Rops also, but not exactly. It is sitting in a piece of PVC pipe with a cap on the bottom that is long enough to protect it from most everything.(except a rollover? ?)
