I agree. You mentioned the holes did not match up also. Could there be a bushing missing that fits over spindle shaft but inside mower blade. If all or some are missing it could be your problem.

Measure the distance from the center spindle to each of the outside spindles. That will tell you if there is an actual difference from side to side. Pictures can give an optical illusion depending on the the angle from which the picture was taken.
