Bradco 32 TLB
Long time listener, first time caller.
I'm in the process of fixing up a Bradco 32TLB (based on Ford 1910 tractor) and I have new hoses and most of the maintenance done at this point. However i found one of the stabilizer cylinders was leaking horribly. I tried to get off the gland but it is one of those wrap around metal retainer deals with very little of the aluminum gland exposed to grab on to and it is stuck on horribly. I dropped it off at a shop and they gave up too. Tried peening, torch, air hammer, etc. and no luck.

So i'm trying to find a replacement and now I'm stuck as I don't know how to buy a cylinder. The shop offered to sell me one for ~2k, however this is a toy for me and I only paid 2500 for the whole setup (and probably about that again into the repair) when I bought it so I don't want to drop that cash. I tried to find the part online but I'm also confused what I need. The 11HD manual (which is on the 32TLB) calls for a 61863 cylinder, however the cylinder itself is stamped 64886. I can find the 61683 for ~1k which is still too much but better, but I can't find the 64886 at all anywhere.

So my question, any suggestions on how to find a replacement cylinder? I'm all for buying a crappy cylinder, making something close enough work, or a used one somewhere as this is basically a backyard toy.

Measure your cylinder length, diameter, and pin size and look for one close in length. Here's a link 82980 CYLINDER ASSY, STABILIZER 609, 611

CYLINDER ASSEMBLY 3.00x1.50x18.93 2.25K, STABILIZER - so it appears to be a 3" outside diameter, 1.5" rod, and 19" long? The key is the closed and fully extended length needs to be close.

Magister Hyd is a good source for inexpensive cylinders as is Surplus Center.

Heres a link to a possible Magister unit 2.5 bore x 16 stroke hydraulic cylinder, welded cross tube double acting cylinder | Magister Hydraulics

I bought on for my woods bushog at tractor supply. Less than 300. Their people are absolutely useless helping with anything aside from checking out

Do you have any pictures of the cylinder? And the unit itself! Never seen or heard of a Bradco 32tlb.

I have a Bradco 11MD2 which is the lighter version of the 11HD and have had to rebuild all the cylinders (but the main boom cylinder) on it. The 61683 stabilizer cylinder is the same one on the 11MD2. I do not know what the 64886 number is unless it is actually 61865 which is the part number for the cylinder tube.

What is your problem with removing the gland?
  • Can you get it to rotate at all to get the lock wire loose?
  • If it does not rotate try putting it on the hoe, extend the cylinder (lower stabilizer), put a piece of metal channel or a half cut piece of pipe between the rod eye and the gland and retract the cylinder (raise stabilizer) this will push the gland a slight bit back in the tube and break the rust free.
  • Once the lock wire is out you might have to pressurize the cylinder with air to get the gland out (be careful! Use a tow strap to keep the rod from flying and stand clear) as the lock wire groove in the cylinder tube will most likely have a burr.
  • Once the gland is out clean up the burr prior to reassembling.
I made a tool to fit the grooves in the gland so I could beat on it with a hammer to turn the gland nut to get the lock wire out.

You could look at replacing it with a generic cylinder. However I am not sure there is room for one. Bradco made the frame around the cylinder tight on the 11MD2 so it would be extremely difficult to find one that would fit. I have circled in red the areas of concern.

Here is a manual for the 11HD. The breakdown for the 61863 stabilizer cylinder is on page 47.

I know that this is not what you were wanting to hear. An extreme option would be to drill two holes in the gland and thread them, screw in two bolts then use a pipe wrench to turn the bolts.
a new gland nut is $150.

If you can provide more details on what is inhibiting your cylinder repair we might be able to offer more assistance.

Interesting to see the changes they made from the 11 to the 611. I'm kinda glad they went to thread in glands on mine, always hated the wire retained glands!

Working on pictures but some info. This is the cylinder part number up close.

I can't get the part to rotate at all, not even a bit. And sadly I can't try to use the hydraulics to help as it's completely screwed. When I push the cylinder in, I get fluid shooting out around the rod. And that was before I attacked it with an air chisel.

The threading in bolts idea is interesting, I will look in to that. I think the shop tried something similar (they told me they drilled some holes) but gave up.

Current approach is to get a slightly longer cylinder and deal with it sticking out a bit. The shop is going to salvage any pieces from the cylinder then need and try to make it work.
