Finally one for the good guys - Camera install pays off

Another example of a worthless individual living among the ranks of decent humans. Put in jail? Sure I guess that would work but I could come up with one better for people like that. I was hit twice several years ago, got $1500 worth of tools the first time, $1000 the next, turned out it was some local dirtbag meth head that has a rap sheet about a foot long, he was arrested, plea bargained and got 2 months in county, got out and started steal again from people around me.

Well gentlemen I wish I had some updates for you but at the moment the only thing from my end is frustration. Two messages to the Sheriffs office to see what the status is and no return phone calls. Through work on my end I have the persons name, street address, and current location of the truck. I have video of the truck and person along with three other individuals who have called or messaged me confirming they know the person in the video. I have also been able to find out that the person has a felony warrant out for non-support. As of right now the law has still not picked him up and he was just at a local pawn shop as of yesterday, probably selling more stuff from other people. I've been told by someone I know in the prosecutors office that they are not very active with misdemeanor cases. Unless I become a thorn in the laws side by badgering them about our case I feel like the case file is going to be stuffed in a cabinet just like it was on our last reports of theft. I feel like I'm doing their job for them and still getting nowhere.

Jk don't be a thorn yet.not sure about your state all have some different "rules" as an example here if the information was considered speedy usually to the end of the officers shift then an arrest will be made. As in your case it took time to compile the info the officers then need to put the evidence with the suspect, your video, the truck, maybe even the scrapyard information where it was sold all together then type out an arrest warrant which then goes to the prosecutors office for review then to a judge to be signed before the arrest is made. Believe it or not even if the warrant is complete in 24 hours it can take weeks before it is signed then served. The wheels of justice are in first gear. Don't blame the cops, sheriff or any LEO we have this problem because of Elected officials, they make the laws and mostly appoint Judges.

Be the "squeaky wheel that gets the grease". Keep your guns loaded and at ready in case he comes to threaten you.

Could be what DABSGT says.

Or, could be that they know spending time with you takes time away from crime solving. Question would be...do they have the "smoking gun?" Meaning, has an item which you can positively identify as stolen been located in scrap yard/pawn shop? In Texas, scrap/pawn places take driver's license of people bringing things in and thus there should be a trail back to the perp. Yes, I know you have the video and several people who believe they can identify the individual. Am not a lawyer, but think that an additional positive link is needed betwen your stuff and the individual. Establishing the link isn't easy...if not caught "red handed."

For a moment, I thought about the possibility of you establishing the link by visiting pawn/scrap dealers, finding your stuff and asking the dealer who brought it in, then taking all this to the police, complete with photos and video. Then, I realized that such acts would put you in various types of risk situations and likely it would make its way back to the perp that you were "snooping around." This fellow doesn't sound like the kind of fellow you want to mess with alone....so it would seem that the law enforcement professionals are the only wise path. Frustrating and maddening to be in this position, for sure.

I know how you feel. With our breakins we call, they come take statements and it looks like nothing ever happens. Don't hear much back. They don't even mess with fingerprints or processing of any kind of physical evidence. Was told they only do that kind of stuff for like murders etc. and even then it has to be sent off to a crime lab that is backed up ... the bad guys probably know this and it emboldens them.

We spent a bunch of time on our camera systems because the video has to be able to hold up in court to positively ID someone, not just their vehicle. Hopefully your case is different and they will do something eventually. The fact he is a known fellon will probably help. We all will be paying for this joker -- again. Some people commit crime to go back to jail as they have 3 squares (meals) and a cot (although it's much nicer than a cot now) and healthcare, Internet, cable TV, fitness program, law library so they can learn how to bog down the legal system, and on and on.

About the only way you can be sure something will happen is if you happen to be there during the breakin an use a firearm to hold them until police arrive. That's a very high stakes situation and I'm not avocating it I'm just saying in that case the police can't ignore the perp and take them immediately into custody.
