YUP! I run ON road diesel about 95 % of the time. AG diesel the other

Just curious; if you have access to off road diesel for your tractor, why would you pay the additional $0.40 to $0.50 per gallon 95% of the time? I know the government will take extra contributions any time, but if you have money you just need to dispose of... :D

There is no real difference between on and off road diesel and you can run either in your tractor without worrying.

I beg to differ. I once foolishly used off-road diesel while driving my tractor on the road, bounced and pitched all over the place. On the flip side, every time I use on-road diesel in the tractor when I'm out in the back 40 I get stuck up to the axles. Believe you me, the on/off road difference is much more than just being red in the dye.

In different areas, the sulfer content may be different. I'm told in my area there is no difference in sulfer content. Either way, you won't have any problems mixing..... or using the two. The lower sulfer content fuel is to meet current on road emissins standards. I feel the more sulfer the better, since it acts as a lubricant. Same goes for home heating oil...... no problems running that in your tractor either. Though there may be some formulation difference between the three...... all are fine to run your tractor on.
There is only one fuel available round here.
So you have to use it in your car truck house and tractor.

**You need to drain it out right away. I'll be right down with the proper containers. No charge for disposal or anything. (just kidding of course)

** No no no!
He has to drain the on road out of the tank and refill with off road to operate the tractor off road.
Then to switch to operating the tractor on road he has to drain the off road out of the tractor and put the on road fuel back in the tractor.
he needs to keep some off road and on road fuel on hand at all times so he can switch fuels as he alternates between off and on road operation.

:D ;)

I do have the $$ but that isnt the reason. When "I" need to add fuel...I just go to the "pump" at the local gas station and get 5-10 gallons. When Im doing things for / with my farmer buddy...I refill using HIS fuel...which is AG diesel.

here in East Texas,
1* the refinery only makes one type of diesel.
2*What is more important is to buy diesel from a place that sells allot of it.

Eddie
1*My fuel comes from the local
Ashland/Marthon bulk plant.
They only have one fuel to use for on road off road and heating homes.
2*There are 3 fuel distributors and they all three haul all their fuel from there.
Don't see how I could get any fresher than that.

Gee,this brings up a question. If a farmer operates his tractor on the road, say between fields for instance, with off-road fuel, would that be unlawful? In reality there may be an exemption for that, and the mileage accumulated on the road would be so little as to make enforcement silly. But,would it be legal? An even wilder thought comes to mind. How about the guy that has lost his drivers license for a drunk driving ticket using his tractor to drive to work. Would using off-road be technically unlawful? And would anybody even care?

None except do you pay highway tax on it or do you not: : :
I just recently discovered that in Virginia if you save your receipts from buying on road diesel for your tractor you can actually get the government to refund the road taxes that you paid on each gallon of fuel that you purchased during the year.
