I'm guessing that when all the high sulphur stocks have run out, it will all be low sulphur, nation wide.
I'd say that's exactly where it's headed.
It's probably a lot closer to being there than most people think.
I think that's great.
It's never made sense to have
on road
off road
home heating oil
fuel oil
ag diesel
farm diesel
red diesel
clear diesel
ETC ETC ETC ETC ETC
when its all the same stuff and will work in everything.
1 fuel is all that's need for anything and everything.

Actually, there are only 2 fuels, On-road with no dye and off-road with dye that is also known as heating oil.

We only have one fuel.
It may have die in it or it may not.
It might be used on the road or it may not be.
It could be used to heat a home or not.
It really don't matter because none of that changes the fact that it's just plain old diesel.

I know that Indiana has on road and off fuel.. A few years ago at the yearly Farm Show any deisel truck that pulled into the convention center was checked to see if they were using the dyed fuel. I know of a person who was caught. (not me)

Also, think about all the construction equipment that is off road and also the mobile cranes running down the road. They are all off road vehicles in Indiana and they would be crazy to pay the extra road taxes on the fuel.

I also know that off road fuel can have additives for summer and winter for gelling just like on road which makes one think they are one and the same less the taxes..

However, I just go to the pump. It's easier for me since I only get 5 gal at a time.........

1* coloring it red don't change the additives or the summer / winter blend.
2*My BX23 holds 5.5 gallons I just filled it up 2 or 3 days ago.
I had filled it up last week.
It needs filled again in the morning.
I filled one of the BX1500s a day or 2 ago .
I was mowing last night with the other BX1500 and the low fuel light kept coming on; so it needs refilled.
The BX1500s have 4 & 1/2 gallon tanks .
I don't use a lot of fuel maybe 30 to 60 gallons a yr but still to much to
...... Just go to the pump and only get 5 gal at a time ......

I get 25 to 55 gallon of red diesel delivered at a time.
This saves me money 2 ways.
I don't waist gasoline in my pickup going after it.
I don't pay tax on the fuel.
It also saves me time running after it.
And a great thing to me is I no longer have to muscle around those heavy awkward cumbersome 5 gallon cans hauling them around and pouring from them into the tractor.
I would not want to give up my pump and drum set up even if I had to run after it and to buy on road and pay the taxes
I don't care if I only used 5 gallon every month or tw0.

wow, what a thread. i started that? i don't know whether to feel overly proud of that accomplishment and should celebrate on road, or if i should run and hide off road.

don't forget the stank on your fingers, truck, trunk or whatever else the gas touches.

The gas station I get my diesel from has two diesel pumps. The taxed on road pump has a warning sticker on it stating that it has less than 500 ppm of sulfur. The untaxed off road pump has no statement of what it has. I've also heard there is no difference in regular and premeium gas. And we have not been to the moon.

there could be some truth in the gas comment. they are different grades, few would disagree there. but what many people have been led to believe, is not always true. many think "high grade" has some miracle cleaning solution in it because of the way gas companies advertise. they'll advertise that high grade has cleaners in it.....okay it does, but the low grade has the same cleaners in it! (at least it used to), it's required. marketing just doesn't tell consumers. so due to crafty advertising, consumers think high grade has some stellar cleaners in it and the low grade doesn't. it's all required by law to have the necessary stuff to keep the fuel system clean and operating efficiently.

the funny thing is that the most reliable vehicles ever made (high mileage) have almost all been run on low grade. so even if there was a difference it doesn't make any real world sense to base a decision on that.

now the moon...i worked at nasa, i saw the dessert where they "filmed it"
