One method of securing cross brace to corner posts is to use galv. rods. I did the first one with available 3/8 rebar. Any long term problem with this alternative?

I've used them but prefer the end plates that Tractor Supply sells. I expect that either will last longer than the brace itself.

I have used the galv. rods with good results. Using rebar really depends on what kind of chemical treatment was used on your post.

Oops...Mudcat's right....if you are using treated wood you need to be using galvanized materials. I've seen treated wood eat non-galvanized nails in as little as 3 years.

Originally treated lumber wasn't as hard on iron products. Then they went with a new more evironment friendly product that ate everything but stainless or hot dipped galvanized. That has been replaced now with a newer version that's still more kind to the environment and not as harsh on steel.

I would still go with galvanized or stainless. But not because the treated lumber with destroy iron or steel fasteners.

Was the wood wet or dry? Does it matter?

It was above ground, outside, so it got wet when it rained, but I don't think that matters....Harv pretty much said it all.
