Anybody ever fabricated a set of FEL shoes for snow removal on a gravel driveway?

With a blade or are you using the bucket?

Just with the bucket. Want to fabricate something that will bolt to the bucket so that I dont have to drill any holes in the bucket.

Curl your bucket up a little past level . This will keep it from digging in , till things freeze up a little.

I've heard of buying the shoes that are meant for truck plows and adapting them to either a front/bucket/blade or rear blade. How you would do that without welding or bolting (drilling a hole) is beyond me.

I've done just what you were talking about, they are skids more than shoes.. they work very well, with the ramps on the front of the skids you can curl the bucket down a little to scrape as low as you want to go without getting gravel. I had to add some weld to the front of the ramps after the first season as they were starting to wear thin. Since then they haven't worn much, I guess the weld was better material.

Like Oldballs was saying, I had to drill 4 holes through the bucket on each side to attach them, then file the holes square to accept carriage bolts. The holes haven't caused me any problems in the off season.

The body is built from 1/4 plate, except for the crossbar on the back which is 3/8 I think. They bolt up through the reinforced section of the bucket so there's no worry about them tearing out. Let me know if you want more detailed pics.

The screen for the bucket makes a big difference for snow clearing, you can get almost twice as much with no spillage over the top. Lights still shine through the screen.

Was thinking about welding some type of bracket to accept the skid shoes and then using a "setscrew" method to attach to the bucket like they make for pallet forks. That way I dont have to drill the bucket.

You may find that the setscrews don't hold the skids that well, they take quite a beating compared to forks. I don't know for sure, I didn't try it that way myself.
