How do you know your email was received? I don't even know who you sent it to, but we hear this all the time from folks....and people don't/won't realize that a lot of things can stop an email, not the least of which is poorly tuned or overactive spam filters at the ISP's servers (over which the recipient has n o control). I NEVER assume an email is received. I send it with a receipt requested if it is important, and if I don't get the receipt, I call.

I made no such assumption, nor did I assume that you DID ask for and get a receipt indicating the email, as you only stated that you guess they don't bother to answer their emails. If you don't know for certain that the email was received, you are making the assumption that they don't answer emails. If you know for certain that it was received and you did not get an answer then you don't need to guess about whether they answer their emails.

The only assumption I made is that most folks reading this forum do not get the volume of email inquiries that we do, and thus might not be aware of how often email simply doesn't get delivered. Obviously that has offended you, and for that I apologize, but I said absolutely nothing about how smart you or anyone else is....I simply presented some information.

You point out one of the prime reasons why I (and perhaps others, but I cannot speak for them) am often reluctant to jump in with suggestions or information. It's no fun to be blasted with sarcasm when one intended only to provide a perspective or information.

Wayne, you are very good at replying to your emails, but not all businesses are (provided they received them). When I was looking for a tractor I had emailed several local dealerships. I like email because I am busy and it is hard to call sometimes during business hours. Many businesses do not take email inquiries seriously though. One responded very rudely, "You did not give me your address so why should I waste time on you when you might live in California?" Well, chances are good that if I lived in California, I wouldn't email a Findlay, Ohio business. And, turning away any customer might be a bad idea since it could be someone moving to the area or buying a tractor for their son/daughter who lives locally. Another called me 2 months after I had emailed the dealership and all I could say was, "Uh, well, I bought a tractor today and am currently hauling it home." I think we all WISH everyone was as responsive to emails as you are. So this one could be one or the other; the email either was not received or they take their good ole time responding (or not). But, we do all need to read suggestions/advice to our posts and either take 'em or leave 'em and not get upset. It is, after all, difficult to communicate in writing sometimes because it is easy to misunderstand and make inferences about a person's meaning that may or may not be there.

Not everyones e-mail program is capable of sending it with a receipt request. And all that means is that the e-mail server got the e-mail, not the recipient

Sounds good to me. Then you know for sure. Sometimes message machines garble messages, too. So if I don't reach a human voice and don't get a call back within a couple of days, I give another call. Always give benefit of the doubt...life is so much more pleasant that way. :)
