FEL Counter-balance

I routinely load my FEL to its capacity and have found the boxscraper @ 300lbs to be just right. I also use the landscape rake as well and although it's about 50 lbs. lighter it works pretty well too. I see no need to exceed 300 lbs. Just because the FEL can lift around 500 lbs doesn't mean the counterweight has to approach the same weight.

Rogue, I agree with NY. I don't think you need more than 300 lbs. Actually, I provided misinformation (shame on me). My blade only weighs 235 lbs and it works great with a full full load of wet dirt. Don't ask me where I came up with that previous weight. "Loading" the tires would be good except it looks like you do a fair amount of mowing. That extra weight will eventually compact your fine topsoil, crush your lawn's roots and then you'll really need that rototiller :)

I guess your decision would depend on how often you need one or the other implements. Ahhhh, you make tons of money anyway, why don't you just get them both and you'll sleep better at night.

I'm with MarkV on this one. I used a sono-tube, quickcrete, a drawbar, and an eye-bolt. Would buy a mini trash can if I did it again. Have to say that this works better than an impliment because it barely adds any length to the tractor/FEL combo, and backing into something while doing loader work can quickly turn a simple project into an expensive disaster.

I'm gonna pursue the tiller for now.

rogue, I use a counterweight that I made from an old water tank. It is filled with lead and has a weight of about 500#. See attached photo.

Nice Von
It looks like the bottom is level with the link arms. How do you get it high enough to hook up, or do you always drop it on a raised surface?

Am I the only one who got a Kubota 3ph weight box when I ordered the FEL?
Haven't used it yet, I use the tiller for ballast, but apparantly you fill the thing with sand.

Todd,
Its hard to make out but there are three legs that it stands on. This gets it just high enough for me to get the 3 pt. lower links hooked up.
