There was a time when I would come home and find 10 to 15 pages of unsolicited faxes on my fax machine... paper and ink wasted.

Have not had one single junk fax this year... not a one.

I still get faxes... each week a supplier has me fax in an order... and sometimes I need to send/receive property management documents.

Same home office phone number for 35+ years...

Guess the scammers and telemarketers have moved on?

Very much the same way at the Hospital... a handful a week instead of 30 or 40 pages daily offering travel and such.

Needed to get a birth certificate the one had used for 60 years was a record of birth. and the pass port group did not accept. So looking up the Nebraska dept. of record. they required a fax to determine if I was the real applicant.
After several attempts to get them satisfied finally located a fax machine and sent all the copies { every thing except picture of birth) .
Now beginning to think e-mail is going like the fax . so will have to start walking with head down looking at small screen.

A lot of e-mail and documents are now encrypted or password protected... just more hoops to go through.

A password is often only the beginning if you add the challenge answers and passwords that expire.

Earlier this year I got a new Epson printer, scanner, copier & fax. I got it because its one of the new series with the large ink tanks. Fax will do me no good - I don't have a land line and trying to send a document over my cell phone.....akin to capturing a fart and painting it green.

However - there is a method just as efficient as fax. Make a copy of the document and attach it to an email. Done this many, many times.

Every government agency has their own unique ways. Dealing with Social Security Admin - - no copies, no fax's - - only the original of any/all documents. They make their own copy - on their own equipment - place a special identification marking on their copy. Thank God - they do return the original.

Years ago I received numerous spam faxes, all advertising one business. Late one night I sent a request to remove my number from their list and when the paper emerged from the machine I taped it to the end. It ran over three hours before it stopped. I never got any more.

Some agencies don't like emailed images of documents because they can be edited/altered so easily. That's a lot harder to do when faxing from an original document, though it can be done.

There are web services that act as intermediaries. You scan and upload an image that they convert and fax out. A page or two is usually free, but more pages can start to incur charges.

Lets be sure we are comparing oranges to oranges. An altered fax and an altered scanned document are not original documents. I can just as easily alter a fax as I can a scanned document. It is simply the ignorance of many companies - thinking that a fax is "safer" - that fax documents are still the preferred method.

Many enlightened companies - Internal Revenue & Social Security - now require that you present them with the original documents - they will make their own copies. God, I hate calling IRS & SSA - enlightened.

I wish I had that problem. I am now getting flooded by no caller id fax calls on my voice line and robo calls from "google search rankings".

We ended up ditching the fax phone line and machine and went to an online toll free fax provider that just emails a copy of the received fax. No more wasted paper and ink on junk faxes. Cheaper than a bare phone line.
