One of my favorites is the anvil. Not quite a shirt pocket tool though :D

I got a few aluminum ones kicking around and several steel ones for snipe use.:D

Actually, I do not use mine as hammers.

This week it's been my tire puncture repair tool and the vice grips I use to pull nails and steel out of the tires.

Years ago, a Ridgid Tool distributor gave me a 6" pipe wrench. That thing has proven to be handier'n a shirt pocket over the years.

I like that (handier'n a shirt pocket)

I gotta go with the Leatherman........... It has saved me many a walk back to the tool crib.

Ya! What is with these hammers:confused:?

Nobody has mentioned the cheapest, most commonly used, handiest tool of all, that every mechanic carries in his back pocket, a rag.:)

OK it's not really a tool, and not the cheapest, but I cannot live without Simple Green wipes, I use them for everything. Oh, and Scott Rags in a Box. I would be in a world of hurt without either one of them. ;)

Forged steel. I've got an aluminum Ridgid 24" "non sparking" pipe wrench under the seat of the truck.

Why is everyone on here so obsessed with HAMMERS???? ;)

Well, you know what they say. If you can't fix it with a hammer.......it must be an electrical problem.

Someone once said that you only need two tools in life.
WD40 and Duct Tape.

If it doesn't move and should - use the WD40
If it moves and shouldn't - use the Duct Tape

Two Craftsman tools, both given to me by my better-half, are my favorites. They are used probably more than any other tool. They are a Reciprocating Saw and a 19-volt Cordless Drill.

Ive got a 3/8 drive S&K socket set that I keep on my truck. its in a green metal box, the ratchet is bent, some of the sockets are worn out, and the box has a few dings in it but it came from my grandad, and we used it for many a job. I also have a snap on magnetic ratcheting screwdriver that I use every day. It might as well be grafted into my right hand.

I'd like to see someone come up with a cordless Leatherman tool with everything including expandable sockets.
Oh yeah, must have a short hammer on it.:D

on the hammer theme... I keep an orange 4lb harbor freight dead blow on the tractor. Man is that thing useful.

Good 'ol Leatherman is pretty far up there...but then again, I ALWAYS have my Gerber one-hand-opener pocket knife with me (except when flying of course). At one time it was an Old Timer's--two sharp blades and a leather punch for quick harness repairs. Haven't seen a leather punch on a pocket knife in years.

Don't know how I got by so many years without an air compressor... use it all the time since I have about 100 tires!

Old-Timer's Swiss Army Knife (black) & DMT red diamond folding hone (the two are nearly inseperable) that I picked up at the Tucson Mall, back in 1987. I have "lost" that knife many times, but it always finds it's way back to me.

The knife has:
> 2 sharp blades
> leather awl (makes a good wood bit in a pinch)l
> Philips blade with a slot in it for opening sardine cans (the cats like that one)
> flat blade screwdriver/bottle opener (I like that one)
> flat blade screwdriver/wire stripper
> tweezers (has removed many slivers)
> toothpick (useless)

The knife fits comfortably in a pocket and the sharpener is never far from it.

I always have my swiss army knife with me and the toothpick I use after every meal. NOT much use as a hammer though. I really miss that knife when I am flying commercial.
