Does anyone own a farmtrac 270dt or a similiar 2740? I know farmtrac is having trouble (understatement) but I found a 270dt, on my way to Mahindra dealer, at a real decent price. Does anyone have any long term experience with this model? How is the lift.? hydraulic gpm seems sort of low which might make for slow or weak lift? They look sharp and rugged but have an unorthodox shuttle. Why are all the ones I see for sale have less than 100hrs? I am beginning to over think this. I know there is not much traffic here or in Montana forums but any help would be greatly appreciated .. need to grade road in the spring etc etc.

My neighbor bought a framtrac 270 last year this time and he absolutely loves it. He bought his with front loader and backhoe. He has just over 300 hours on it already and has had no problems at all. He has dug a large pond with it put in his own septic tank and leach field. He also has a rear snowblower and clears a long drive with it. I have known this guy for a long time and he uses this tractor as a tractor, and really works it.
If I needed something that small I would not pass it up if the price is right.
As for farmtrac trouble I hear Montana is willing to warranty the tractors. My local farmtrac dealer is not so worried about the warrenty themselve becuase they claim that farmtrac is very dependable and they will warranty themselves if needed.

I bought mine 6/05 and have 335 hrs of grading, mowing, tilling, skidding and dragging all manner of things around. I don't have a loader as my primary task is mowing and it would just be in the way. Also, my FIL is an excavating contractor and backhoes and Bobcats are just one hill away. I can't comment on the shuttle other than I love it. I was driving an old 135 Massey and this Farmtrac is like a dream compared to the Massey nightmare with no shuttle or power steering. I paid 10.3K for mine with the 0% 48 mo financing. I have no idea about the 100 hr threshold you are encountering. I do know that the tractor is very reliable and easy to operate. Two thumbs up!

I can't get my head wrapped around the idea of Montanna being willing to warranty FarmTrac tractors. What would be their motivation to do so? Who would compensate Montanna for these warranty repairs? Are you referring to the tractors that they share in their respective lineups (LG) or the FarmTrac Ford clones as well? I'd be willing to bet that this rumor grew out of wishful thinking unless LG is offering Montanna financial compensation for their efforts.

No it is not a rumor. Montana will provide parts and service for the (lg) Farmtrac which is the 270. As for warrranty they are making some progress and it does look like they will but there is no official word yet that I am aware of. As for what is in it for them is the Farmtrac dealer base. I am not going to spell everything out but it is looking like Montana is going to take care of the LG tractors we just don't have all of the details. The shuttle being different?? I am not sure what you mean. Most shuttle shifts are very similar to the 270 or they are on the left side of the seat. The 270 is set up pretty much normal. Remember it is mechanical and not electronic over hyd.

Rear lift 1587 lbs.

Lifting capacity pivot pin (full height) w/5045 loader 1300 lbs.

Does anyone know what the lift capacity for the 5040 loader (my loader) is? The manual I received with my tractor/loader only gives specs for the 5045 and larger. By the way, some day I will scan page 8 of the manual where there are 2 diagrams side-by-side depicting tractors traveling up a hill with full load in bucket. One diagram has the load carried low to ground while other has bucket raised to full height. The diagram depicting an obvious safety hazard (bucket fully raised) clearly states DO THIS while the accompanying diagram showing the appropriate method for transporting material up an incline states NOT THIS.

Opps.

Some of the stuff in the manuals is a real hoot. I believe they tend to lose something in the translation.:)

When comparing comparable HP units during summer of '06, I couldn't find any better pump output than the total 9.8 GPM pump output (6.2 GPM implement pump, 3.6 steering pump) of the 270.

I understand Montana offering parts and svc support for the LG line that they share with FarmTrac. Any dealership would welcome the opportunity to sell more parts and labor. As far as warranty, I can't see Montana eating the cost of any potential claims for FarmTrac machines. It's hard enough to get warranty if you are an hour over the stated warranty time, let alone getting it on someone elses machine. LG may step up and reimburse them, then I see this happening. FarmTrac and any other importer builds in the cost of the warranty into the sticker price of the tractor. These set aside warranty monies are all rolled up into the entire FT mess.

Some one asked lift on 5040 loader?

The origional spec was 1000lbs then up graded to 1200lbls at full height

no change in the physical machine just a PRV setting per Eng in Tarboro.
