Farmall Super C charging too much

/ Farmall Super C charging too much #21
First let me say I've never used it. But it says/shows how to hook that wire up in the installation sheet and can't remember the setup it's used on but not necessary on tractors like the Super C. I've got them on my Super C's, 240U, 130 & 140. All are from 3 to 6 years old and still working. I have a spare in the parts cabinet for just in case.

Price has increased from last year at O'Reilly's, I bought one for my Massey 35 and it was $89.99, and so were the VR214 because I checked the price just for giggles.

The Delco ID tag on my Farmall Super C generator is missing. Does anyone know if it's stamped anywhere else.

Ordered correct regulator and it will be here Wednesday. Can't put it on for a while but looking forward to doing it. I don't like paying for them but do love new parts.

Thanks to Little Bill, RCorazza and DJ54 for solving this.

I got the new regular that DJ54 mentioned and installed it. In following the instructions to polarize, I think that's what it's called, the regulator you momentarily touch the BATT to the GEN terminals. I did that but did not get a spark. I've done this over the years and seem to remember getting a spark. I have not started it yet. Is no spark OK?

Sounds odd. All I've ever done I got a small spark by basically holding the wire to one terminal and brushing the other end of wire across the other terminal. It makes a slight spark, not a big snapping type spark.

One of the metal terminal covers was loose. All OK now.

New regulator in place, polarized and finished. Now I have a normal reading and the old regulator was just not working right.

While I was at it I tightened the fan belt, the generator belt and did a little maintenance. Now I'm ready for local tractor drives, parades and the endless summer of 2025.

Thanks to all for the diagnosis and cure.

Have you ever lubed the fan pulley assembly..?? If not, might be an idea to do that.

Funny you should mention that. I plan to do lube the water pump and briefly looked into it but that's as far as I got. I watched a partial video on-line but it was hard to see.

I also have to add to the steering gear. I mix gear oil and grease but I might try corn head grease this year because it is a slurry-ish grease that I can get in and think it will stay in.

One other question---I read somewhere that you should re-polarize the regulator if you ever disconnect the battery.

Uhh--I disconnect my C battery when done using it because of fire risk but have never re-polarized the regulator. Does anyone know anything about this? It doesn't sound right and I don't know anyone that does this.
