Tractor
New Holland TC 35(primary), MF 165, JD 40T,
Looking at a bigger truck for a tow rig.
What about F 450 manual shift w/ OD and 6.8 V10 triton 170,000 miles.
Any thoughts. Currently tow my TC35 2wd and 1 or 2 pieces on a 20ft tandem axle w/ single axle brakes behind my 2000 gmc z71 1500. No problems but would like to save my city truck. Thanks PJ

I used my buddies F450 when I worked with him, and on occasion other times. It was an '02 with diesel, stickshift, and a flatbed with dump. Loved that flatbed...

The load you note, you'd never know it was behind you...

I got my 99 F-450 psd for the same reason. I can tow tow my tractor and have almost all of my implements on the flatbed with no problems.

You will also be able to stop your load a lot faster compared to your 1500.

Just get one truck to do it all. Had an F450 to haul my trailer/tractor and a toyota for the dump trailer for firewood. The F450 got 5MPG and on it's best day the Toyota got 17MPG. Moved up to a Dodge Ram 2500 cummins, 18MPG average (traded them both in), best thing I ever did. Put Timbren overloads on her and she acts like a dually. Quad cab is sweet, don't miss the 8' box. JMHO...ain't the brand it's the concept!

well I didn't get the F 450 but I did run across what I think was a good deal.
1987 Ford F350 5.4 auto with 8' x 12' steel flatbed (no dump) w/ g/n ball.
91,000 miles. $2G. very good shape all the way around. ( ebay 80 miles away) Put in a tekonsa brake controler. Thinking about adding a H/F truck crane on the rear corner to aid in picking up implements and putting on board. Also making side boards out of 5/4 4 boards high. Still have the same trailer but I'm really thinking about putting brakes on the other axle, as I want to load my tractor tires.
Any ideas or feedback appreciated.

Wouldn't the gas motor of that vintage be a 5.8(351) or a 7.5(460)?

Ford used the 351 and 460 thru 1997 in f250 hd on up .

Nice 351Windsor one of my favorites. I put a Ton of miles on Econ150 in the late 70's and kept it until the early 90's. I couldn't say for sure just how many times it rolled over before the odometer and speedometer broke and I finaly replaced it. Oh yeah I remember why. It was a speeding ticket that was my story my Speedometer didn't work but it didn't help any he still wrote it up.:ashamed:

Hey carey, some of our "finest" ( check my profile) just dont have a sense of humor. I know some of the gsp guys in your neck of the woods couple of them are real good guys. BTW is it warm in your area? My truck thermometer
showed from 112- to 116 Today. It usually is pretty close. But thats hard to fathom.
Good day PJ

He Got me he was a Gwinett co. on my way home from work Late in the Eve. he was fair only 15 over 70 in a 55. Don't know how fast I was really no speedo.

I spent ALOT of time in your neck of the woods last year at The Med.Col.Ga. I Owe those people basicly my life. Took Great care of me:D Drove by Augusta for yrs. when we kept the camper in Mytle beach or going to my Grand Fathers at south of the boarder. Now I now my way around there way to well thanIcare to.
I believe it on the Heat .I had to go over to my Mothers this Eve. and it was 98 out at the pool at 7:30pm. Rough on me.
I believe you will like the new to you Ford. Address everything and take care of it and it will return the favor.;)

That's a darn good engine. I had an '84 351 HO. It was better at pulling a load than my '00 with a 5.4. That old 4 barrel got better mileage than the 5.4 too.

Yeap I'll agree with you on that.My 01 250 is a 5.4. When I pulled the heads I went to a 4 barrel. Thats how I got a ticket young and couldn't keep my foot out of it'
