I’m in the market to purchase a new set of aftermarket wheels for my 2014 F150.
I’ve looked up the stock wheel size, and nothing seems to match up as far as backset/offset whatever you wanna call it.

I don’t know if it’s my old age or what but I seem to get easily confused when I’m looking at wheels for it.

My stock tire size is P275/65R18

I’ve done some searches online, and I cannot get/understand the concept of backset or offset. I understand what they’re trying to say, but the numerical values reflected on so many wheels verses replacement wheels seem to be vastly different, but all the websites say they fit my vehicle.

I have read that having a offset too far outbound can create handling/performance/vehicle safety issues.

Also, it seems like the majority of the wheels these days have the blacked out look, and I’m not a fan of it.

Any help someone can give me would be of great appreciation as I have wanted to do this for the past couple seasons, and my tires are starting to need to be replaced and I like to do it before winter

You just need to figure out what you have now. If you want to match what you have now you need the width, the offset, and the bolt pattern.

Don,t know if you are on Facebook Marketplace or not, but if you are, there are many sets of OEM wheels and tires off of F150 trucks that you could purchase for around half the price of brand new ones. I,m amazed at the number of sets of 4 available. Seems to me that a lot of young folks that purchase these trucks decide they have to have an aftermarket set, and put the OEM ones up for sale, some at reasonable prices.

I'll try. Backspace and offset are two ways of saying the same measurement. An 8" wide wheel with 4" backspace is the same as saying it has zero offset, because the wheel mounting surface is exactly in the middle. The same 8" wheel with a 3" backspace would be a 1" (negative) offset - the wheel would sit 1" further in. Positive offset wheels sit out farther and are harder on axle/wheel bearings.

Try and stay as close to stock, as you can. (looks better IMHO) Tirerack.com is a good source (for new).

This is well stated and helps exactly clarify part of my question.

But in many wheel descriptions is see, a “40” for my stock wheel, but in new wheel descriptions I see a 2 or maybe a 4, or a -2 or even -16, are they then referring to a metric number as in millimeters?

Actually, my "offset" description was backwards. That 8" wheel with a 3" backspace would be 1" positive offset. Regarding those -2 or even -16? Ask the seller. I like it when the "backspace" number is given - no question of the meaning...

This one is better at explaining offset.
