I suggest you install this jamming device between you and your neighbors. jammer Guaranteed to work...........Tom ( that shreik you hear at the end is your neighbor dropping his "HOT" scanner )

I really got a kick out of that video clip. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Had to watch it several times. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I have worked in power plants for many years and have opened my share of high voltage disconnects, but I have never seen anything like this. Is this for real or some computer editing?

As for scanners, I used to work with a guy who always had to have a scanner.
At first he could buy them that would pick up cell phones.
Then he bought a newer model that wouldn’t, but paid to have it “tricked out” so that it would.
Later on he bought one that would pick up the “side band or harmonics” of the cell frequencies and could listen just fine.
Then most cell phones seemed to start changing frequencies every minute or so which made it difficult to stay with one conversation.
I assume his scanners could only receive analog signals.

That's the way it was sent to me.........From an engineering class web site........Sure looks REAL..........Tom

Are you sure they don't just have your house bugged???? Maybe they and the previous residents of your house had something installed for security reasons.

Maybe they have a brainwave scanner.... I have one pointed at one of our neighbor's houses, but it isn't detecting anything /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Let's see, at about 10,000 volts to sustain one inch of arc in free air ... times 12 inches a foot ..... multiplied by a bunch .... carry the 2 ... that's about a gadzillion volts I think! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I think it's for real - the two guys on the right seem to be hiding behind the truck - like that would do anything to protect them!

It's only 500 kV, Doc. I've switched the other end of that line more'n once. Nothin' to it. The name of the mountain in the background is McCollough. This is an SCE Switchyard.

/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif That reminds me of Sister Kevin Patrick from my high school. She taught physics and chemistry. She had a little Telsa coil "sparker" that she would use to show how arcs can jump a gap. I think it put out about 7500 volts. She would arc it to her finger and hold it a couple seconds - wouldn't even flinch. Then she'd pick on the class loudmouth/toughguy - dare him that he couldn't do that without moving. I think he jumped four feet in the air when the spark hit him, & seemed a bit more humble from then on. Of course, I don't think he was quite as isolated from ground as she was, wearing those thick black nun shoes!

Couldn't do that nowadays - parents would be suing right and left.

We asked about baby monitors and you answered that. But how about a wireless intercom? If you have one and they have one, and you're both on the same side of the stepdown transformer the signal would travel between the houses.

If you had a wireless intercom, I doubt the transformer would have any affect /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif Were you thinking of the ones that use the AC lines? If so, Yep. And you could turn off their lights if they had X10 stuff, too.
