Actually, in a better world your salary would be tied to the value that you bring to the business. A business does not owe you a living. If you don't like your situation, you can change it. If you have a better idea of how to run things, start your own business.

Good point! A lot of people that say businesses should expose their profit to keep it sane work for the government in some way. There is nothing wrong with working for the government but I wish they would keep their taxes and spending sane. On the next ballot we have about 10 advisory vote items to repeal taxes the state legislators increased without a vote of the people. I do not know if advisory votes compel the legislators to do anything or not but I am glad they are on there. Profit of companies is self regulating. If EA has insane profit levels a competitor will show up and take their business. The government has no competition, they are insane.

You are a little mixed up...my statement was about the margins on individual products...and I didn't mean just public cos...it was a subjective comment.

I'm fairly well versed in DD and searching SEC docs...have subscribed to EDGAR and LexisNexis since the early 90's...
...here's a tip...learn to use Find and use a list of keywords if you're interested in more than just the balance sheet...

Piney, I have to say....
In my humble opinion you are one arrogant a h

I was just reading what you posted, your comment was "if manufacturers were required to disclose factual profit margins...". I don't see where you specify "individual products" and it is not obvious to me that is what you meant. My bad if that is what you meant when you wrote it.

You're still a bit confused...like I said it was a subjective comment...you were the one that assumed I was talking about public cos....all I said was "manufacturers"...

...by factual I meant material + labor + (realistic) overhead...not convoluted boilerplate legalese that fluffs up things like R&D, distribution, marketing etc., etc...

Is your background government oversight? R&D, distribution, marketing, etc. is not fluff. All required in most businesses and all need to be accounted for somewhere. A business can show costs, overhead, margins or profit in numerous ways but in no business is R&D, distribution and marketing part of profit or margin. They are certainly not fluff (as in not real or not needed) or invented to show added cost.

EA has a good business going, pretty hard to argue that and their profit is what the free market dictates.

As an example Travis needs to be paid and I would consider his role on TBN to be both marketing and sales. He is very good at what he does and should be compensated accordingly. Are you saying that since his costs are obviously not material and labor to manufacture that his salary should not be part of cost of business? That he is just convoluted made up fluff and not needed? I would submit that EAs business in grapples would be way, way lower if not for his marketing.

VERY WELL PUT !!!

I agree, to a point but once the R&D and patent costs are recouped and the Billions of $$$ of profits have been obtained, it is unconscionable to then raise prices by 5,000% or more for life-saving drugs. Greed kills!

I am quite sure whatever the f piney did for a living he took only half of his value from his employer, so as to allow his employer to give back to the masses!
