Using a chain saw on a ladder is something one should never do.

Over age of 65, 40% of broken hips proceed to pneumonia and death. (Almost all falls in that statistic would be in the home, from standing to the floor.)

I would guess a ladder fall, landing first on the FEL, would be 90% fatal.

Some work should be hired out or left to nature.

I think the last time I looked; the average overall mortality for hip fractures over 65 y/o's is still closer to 50%, but that is nationwide and you may be talking about a local rate.

Nonetheless, falling from anything more than 9 feet can be fatal, and if either a fall onto the loader occurred, or a branch fell on top of the fallee, I have to believe that 90% would be a conservative estimate.

I made something similar from a painters extension pole, a repurposed paint roller frame, and a hand held pruning saw. It works well.

I have had a 23 ft Little giant for 20+ years and love it - but it is heavy. How heavy is one of these?

I don't know exact weight. It is heavy. My guess is close to 200 lb.

The specs page you linked to say that the 15' model weighs 60 lbs, the 17' one weighs 79 lbs and the 21' one weighs 103 lbs.

It might be what it is. It definitely feel heavier when handled by single person. I guess I am getting old everything feels heavier lately.

I have put a ladder in a tractor bucket before, but I have never and will never chainsaw from a ladder. IMO a ladder in a tractor bucket is perfectly safe.

Yeah that might work till you get to close to a hornet's nest and fall out of the bucket trying to get away.
Chainsaws and ladders do not mix well.

They are certainly awkward to handle.

One improvement to consider is attaching a length of rope to the bucket control lever so you can adjust the height of the ladder without having to climb down. Much easier on the knees that way.
