I bought a walk behind mower yesterday and started messing with it today.
It ran last season and was left with ordinary pump gas with 10% ethanol.
Not only the bad gas, and cleaning the carb bowl, main jet, float, etc.
Look at this nice surprise from the plugged up fuel line.

That’s a longer drill bit it used to go through it ramrod style. This came out the opposite end on the first pass.

We all need to put fuel stabilizer in the tank before you shut it down for the season and run it through the whole fuel system.. Gasoline fuels need this weather it has ethanol in it or not. o_O

Bought myself a heated ultrasonic bath cleaner I keep filled with Berryman's B12 Carb cleaner. 30 minutes in that cleans everything. Won't clean goopy hoses though.

Good enough for Mustie (on You-Tube)_, good enough for me.

All gasoline fuels are made or refined as an expendable product and its always been that way. That means they have a limited shelf life and as soon as they come out of the pipe line or exposed to oxygen they deteriorate. The only way to extend this is to keep it very cool, have no oxygen for it to mix with, or add a stabilizing chemical to it. One of these options is pretty easy to do.

What is that stuff? Did it just melt the fuel line?

My goodness. I have to admit I’ve left fuel in mowers over the winter but nothing like that ever happened. Ever.

How old is that mower?

It’s a 2012 Cub cadet CC760. It was kept inside and otherwise looks in good shape.
I had heard of (and experienced) bad gas and gumming up the carb, inlet screens, never expected this.

Highest usually has less or even no ethanol.
Not accurate. In fact, Ethanol is used as an octane booster. In higher grades, you sometimes find more ethanol.

Just use whatever youre supposed to use. If it's a small lawnmower, empty the tank and drain the carburetor bowl. If you want to. I don't bother and I don't have any problems.

I don't know why some people do and some people don't but I'm not sure it has anything to do with ethanol.

I use regular ethanol gas and leave it in my equipment over the winter with no damage. I use Stabil in all my small engine gas.

That "goo" didn't happen just over a winter's storage. That's been coming on for a while.

Its good looks does not indicate if the manufacture, or its orignal owner didn't install an inappropriate hose on it.

Hmm. Just guessing it sat longer than you were told, or the hose is of inferior material, or both. Pretty gooey stuff, that's for sure.

For small engines buy non ethanol gas,.... if available in your state.
If the "greenies" in your state have outlawed non ethanol, buy 100LL at your local airport.
100LL will store for a few years even without an additive.

Me and the wife sure have been fighting lots lately, must be the ethanol in the gas.
My dog doesn't listen to me while on walks, must be the ethanol in the gas.
My party member didn't win in the last state election, must be the ethanol in the gas.
Do you see a pattern here? If not, it must be the ethanol in the gas. :ROFLMAO:

I have seen rubber parts deteriorate when some race fuels are used. Who knows what the previous person put in it.

I leave one of my chainsaw tanks filled with gas for about 2-3 months. Drained the other one and ran it out of gas for same time period.
The one left full started on 2nd pull.
The one I drained took about 50 pulls to start.
Now I know what you’re gonna start squabbling at me “yeah well it takes a long time to suck the fuel through empty lines to the carb”, and you would be right.
My bigger point is that if I fill the tank full and store it a few months, there’s no Ox-e-gin in the tank to degrade the fuel.
Works for me..... If it ain’t broke, I aint fixin it.....got too much other crap to fix.
