Hello everybody:

My property is in NW Indiana. And I have approximately 800 yards of gravel road to maintain. I am planning to buy a John Deere 3720 (or maybe a 4720).

Now I have the following questions:

Is the Erskine rear pull snow blower a valid option compared to the John Deere front snow blower? Which is faster & more efficient?
Please elaborate.

Thank you.
Regards,
FRIZ

They are great units from all I've read...but at a very high price, like 5-6k for one...for the same money you can get the JD front mount.

I don't understand the rear blower over the front blower. I've been using the Deere front blower for years now and it is superb. Why anyone would want to plow looking over their shoulder is a mystery to me but then again I've never done it.

As far as i know, the 4000 series tractors do not work with the JD front blowers so if you want that then you need to stick with the 3720.

The rear pull Erskine looks interesting. The only negative I see is getting the tractor stuck in deep snow, as the tractor has to go into it first. With 4 wheel drive and chains, it might be ok though.

AHA, ya got me;)

The late model JD front blowers do not work with the LATE model 4x20 series tractors. Not sure why though:(

IMO pull blowers are meant for production driveway blowing but would work good if your snow doesn't get to deep

If cost is a consideration I would just get a standard 3pt mounted blower

I was thinking of keeping my blade on the front for light snows and have the inverted rear pull to use in conjunction with the blade or deeper snows.
Good point about tracking through deeper snows deepths before the blower gets to it. Both Normand and Pronovost make em so it seems they must work or people wouldnt buy them.

It would be interesting for our northern neighbors to comment on the use of inverted or pull type snow throwers from Pronovost or Normand.
