Snow Erskine rear pull snow blower?

Hi:

I have a copy of the dealer brochure and specs (not with me though) on the 76" front mount rear PTO powered hydraulic Frontier blower for the 400 series loaders.

No price yet, but offered from JD. Exactly what I would have done. I would have put a Skid Steer blower on the front with a huge pto pump on the rear. That's exactly what this is.

It also has a feature which slows down the auger if the impeller gets full (not sure how). Has hydraulic chute/chute angle adjustments, etc.

76" wide is plenty wide. Also being boom mounted you could tear down banks, etc.

Also, from the picture, the back of the unit has another 3pt mount implying you could put weights or an implement on back of the PTO pump frame. Not sure if it would be rugged enough, maybe for a ballast block.

I will bet it's $8k at a minimum.

Also, just to clarify, I mentioned Skid Steer mount as what I would have done (Prior to this offering). It mounts on the JD mounts on the 400 series loader.

35hp minimum. I wonder why they don't mention the 3720 as it would fit and would make the HP min.

Friz,

Yep, 76 inches wide, mounts right on the FEL in place of the bucket, Rear PTO with I-match hitch. Sounds very nice.

Thank you:)
Regards,
FRIZ

Any more word on this snowblower? It sounds great, and I'd love to have one on my 4720 (though not at the $8K price someone guessed earlier).

I currently have a rear PTO driven blower and I'm tired or craning my neck around to blow snow. I'm in the process of fitting it to attach to my FEL. Does anyone know whether a PTO snowblower will operate properly with a hyrdaulic motor? I'm assuming the motor will need to run at right about 540 rpm. Is that right?

Your machine will not have the hydraulic capacity to effectively run the blower hydraulically. The smallest PTO drive motor Surplus Center sells needs 17.1 GPM and only puts out about 21 HP. The only real option is to build a separate hydraulic system with a pump powered from the rear PTO, with it's own tank, filter and valve-then run large (3/4 -1") lines from the rear to the front.

So, basically something like the power pack that JD sells with the Frontier SB21, eh? Anybody know the cost on the power pack separately?

Exactly. No Idea what it cost's-but I bet it's not cheap. Would probably cost about $1k to make it yourself...

Another question for you -- where did you find the HP figure for that motor, or is it something you calculated based on the information given? I see where it says it requires 17.1 gpm, and I see torque and RPM numbers, but I don't see a HP number.

It looks like the recommended HP for my snowblower is 60. That's a lot more than 21.
