Enlarged Prostate?

I had a hydrocele, but got it taken care of when it was only golf ball size. Hardly had any pain; never took any pain meds. Didn't take any for the TURP either, but I should have before they pulled the catheter. As I said in an earlier post, pulling the catheter after the TURP was like pulling out barbed wire.

When they pulled the catheter to change it or at the end I hardly felt it at all.

Who knows why the different reactions.

If you have a problem with enlarged prostrate BPH and end up in an ER or have surgery make sure the attending doctor/nurse knows that about it before they start inserting a catheter. There's different sizes of catheters. If they shove a large size (normal) catheter inside you while you have an enlarged prostate it will be a teachable moment................. trust me.

I've been taking avodart 3 times a week for the last 13 years for BPH and it works for me.

Well, trip to Urologist complete. (Cue the applause...) And, as a friend of mine always says when good fortune comes his way: "That's what good clean livin' does for 'ya." I had a prostate exam by my American-born & bred Urologist and surprisingly he said he didn't think the prostate was all that big. He suspects that rather than growing bigger, that it may be just squeezing the opening of the bladder. (During the two weeks I waited for the appointment, my family Dr. doubled the does of the Flomax and things since have been w-o-n-d-e-r-f-u-l again.) The Urologist said there was no need to do anything more at this point (since the double dosage is working) but at some point the two pills a day I am now taking will probably not be enough and at that point some decisions will have to be made. He walked me through all the options discussed here. I left feeling so much better about my situation.

BTW, I have nothing against foreign doctors, some of the best we have to offer are not from North America. BUT I have been to two other urologists (one from Poland, another from Malaysia?) and I could not understand a word they were saying.

Thank you all for your support and sharing your experiences, I mean that very sincerely. It has made a stressful time a bit better for me.

I have been treated for a reoccurring prostate infection over the last few months without much success. Went on to the next step, seeing an urologist. Went through all the standard tests, nothing detected, two weeks ago the urologist preformed a cystoscope look-see into the bladder and fund a growth, took a biopsy. I am back home now after having same day surgery to remove the tumor, luckily the cancer was caught early. There will be some chemo once I recover from the surgery and all the biopsy results are in for type and sensitivity to chemo.
The moral of the story is, dont delay, I wished I had moved faster.

Having cancer is bad, but finding it early is a silver lining on an otherwise dark cloud. I wish you well on your continued therapy.

All I can say is ouch! If prostate does not evacuate during ejaculation then it should be milked. The dehydrated cells left cause problems. having a sperm count thru the years is a head start to avoid problems.

You will get the best of car there. I pray that it is contained to that area. My Thoughts and prayers go out to you for a speedy cure of this problem. I had Bladder Cancer about 7 years ago and the Docs fixed me right up and no problem since. Ken Sweet

If you need to be treated for cancer Slone Kettering has to be one of the top places in the world. Best of luck with your treatment! I know this is easy for me to say but hang in there!

Does anyone have experience with the Cancer Treatment Centers of America? I see their advertisements on TV claiming marvelous results and I知 weighting all my options.
