Funny. My Dad always wore and wears his construction boots on the Aircraft to Europe. Kind of out of place. But I have had these images of him walking away from some twisted burning wreckage.

As far as plane crashes go.... not too many walk away. I've never heard of anyone dying in a plane crash because their cut feet bled them out.
...

There have been some plane crashed where people have walked/run away from the scene. I would doubt that the investigators would know if people died because they cut/burned their feet, especially if a fire burned out the cabin. I would rather walk out of a crashed plane in boots than bare feet...

I see quite a few photos of accident and terror attacks where there are lots of flip flops/sandals left at the scene. Seems like it would be better to be able to run over broken glass, gravel, metal, etc in shoes than bare feet. I have gone through the airport security numerous times wearing my boots. Given that I, and every one else, has taken off their shoes before getting through the Nuke/Grope zone it does not slow down the line. I have delayed the line but it had nothing to do with shoes.:laughing::laughing::laughing:

I'm always kinda disappointed if I DON'T get frisked... kinda looked forward to it......

The only way I go to the airport nowadays. Helps speed up the process! Just need to be aware of your destination point and make sure it's not to cold:laughing:

Still remember when I took my future wife to Utah to go hiking with my father and I back around 2003. I was darked skinned/tanned wearing a good size beard. My wife is light skinned and blonde. We had different airlines, I had to check in a .44 mag. I went straight through no problems and my wife was the one who got stripped searched. Go figure.

I bought a new pair of boots back in 2014. I needed a new pair, thankfully the pair is very comfortable after breaking in, and I wear them every day except in the summer.

Wore the boots to China and I am glad I did. We did a fair amount of walking and spent days in a boat yard, which had parts and pieces all over the place, so having boots was a good idea. The boots have good traction and being 15-20 feet on "scaffolding" that often was a bit wobbly was reassuring since a fall was onto concrete and whatever was down below. An OSHA inspector would have had a heart attack just stepping into the place.:laughing::laughing:

Wore the same boots to Scotland and Ireland as well. They were really secure on a boat deck when we were in a gale. Not really boat boots, but I had 'em, they were paid for, and they worked.:laughing::laughing: We did quite a bit of walking over there as well.

I wear a Fitbit and one of my OH Sh...t moments in Scotland/Ireland is that I forgot to charge the Fitbit so I did see all of the miles I was walking. Since 2015 I have walked over 5,000 miles and my best guess is that at least 50-60/70% of those miles is in these boots. At least 2,500 miles and I am on the same boot laces. The boots are a bit scuffed up in places, but other than that, still going strong.

Wore those boots on the planes to/from China and Europe. :D They did not cause a problem with TSA, though there was that TSA thug in LAX that needs to be out in the desert hugging rocks... Checking into China was more friendly that that dip stick in LAX.

In these End of the World conversations, TP is always one of the mentioned most needed items. Well, many in the world do not use TP and they survive. Seems like good shoes/boots would be more useful if we were going from an Industrial Society to Chaos Time.:laughing::laughing::laughing:

I hope for that guys sake, the Speedo is fire retardant.

I routinely wear crocks (albeit the closed institutional variety) for welding and cutting. Still a bugger when a spark gets in there. Or weld, without a shirt getting a nasty sunburn. I just hate clothing in warm weather.

You all might thing this is crazy, but when we have tornado warnings and we are all crouching in the basement, I make sure to put on jeans and boots. I often lounge around in shorts and barefoot, but when they start getting close, I get dressed, put my phone in my pocket and wait it out. I would a heck of a lot rather walk thru the rubble of my own house If I survive in boots than barefooted in shorts.

Reminds me of various Submarine humor that I have seen on the Internet.

Suggestions for the ex-submariner that misses "the good old days on the boat"
1. Sleep on the shelf in your closet. Replace the closet door with a curtain. Two to three hours after you fall asleep, have your wife whip open the curtain, shine a flashlight in your eyes, and mumble "Sorry, wrong rack".
2. Repeat back everything anyone says to you.
3. Spend as much time as possible indoors and avoid sun light. Only view the world through the peep hole on your front door.
4. Renovate your bathroom. Build a wall across the middle of your bathtub and move the shower head down to chest level. Shower once a week. Use no more than 2 gallons of water per shower.
5. Buy a trash compactor and use it once a week. Store garbage in the other side of your bathtub.
6. Sit in your car for six hours a day with your hands on the wheel and the motor running, but don't go anywhere. Install 200 extra oil temperature gauges. Take logs on all gages and indicators every 30 minutes.
7. Put lube oil in your humidifier instead of water and set it to "High".

Lots more.

At the first sign of weather trouble, I put a flashlight in my pocket.

Yeah, I do similar. Sitting in the basement in my jammies with my shoes on. Kids and wife think I'm nuts.... OK, they probably got something, there, but I feel better knowing I can walk through the rubble for help.

I know a fellow that just stays in his bedroom with no worries.

Reenforced 12 inch concrete walls & ceiling, steel door on hefty hinges; designed into his house just for tornado peace of mind.
