EMP Prep, What would you do if you had 45 minutes to prepare?

I own chickens, I own a few cattle and there is a fresh water spring on the boarder of my property.

If I had any time I would quickly abandon ship and head to southern Ohio to the deep woods, my fam has a hunting cabin down there, I would have a better chance of survival, there is no way I could guard my house from the waves of looters, would be stupid to try.

At least in the woods there is deer to hunt, turkey, fresh water etc, it would take months before any city folks made it that far and I’m not hanging around to wait on the 900k hungry people from Columbus to try and shoot me over a few steer and chickens.

I would tell my neighbor they can have the livestock, I’ll take my guns, bows and my dog. I wouldn’t even try a grocery store, no time, it’s an hour drive.

...no time, it’s an hour drive.
Wear comfortable hiking boots or get out in front, dial the speedometer to 11, and slow down for nothing. The roads are going to be a mess.

I've been toying with building a Rick Simon (Simon & Simon) front bumper for the F-250, more for deer hits and a winch mount, but it could come in handy during a mass exodus too
;)

Where is the exodus to for guys in Michigan?
Not sure where others might try to go, but I'd stay put. Things would be worse off at the other places available to me in addition to the factors introduced under EMP disaster conditions while trying to get there.

My feelings exactly.

Added, those of us with families would make traveling more difficult as well.

I still feel that there is better safety in numbers than by trying to stay alive on your own.

Besides that, a gun isn't any good without any ammo, and try transporting any decent quantity of ammo, it's not as easy as you think LOL

...and diesel fuel, kerosene, gasoline, firewood, freezers, a generator, deer, turkeys, toilet paper, etc.. ;)

Wear comfortable hiking boots....

Years ago I read an account of a young woman who was a concentration camp survivor that has always stuck with me. When the Germans came to take her family off to the camps, they had enough time to gather some things to take. Her father told her to go put on the hiking boots she had which she thought was odd. The father was right and she lived because of those boots.

Eventually, the family was split up, I don't any of them survived but she managed to keep alive in the camps. When the Russians started moving west, the Germans forced marched the concentration camp inmates west to keep them from being freed. This was in the middle of winter and many/most of the inmates died on the march. This woman survived because those boots protected her feet just enough to keep her walking. If you stopped walking, you were killed.

If her father had not thought about those boots and having her put them on, she would have died.

When we travel, I wear a good pair of walking boots. You never know when you might have to walk farther than you intended. I see people on airplanes wearing flip flops and similar flimsy "shoes." If the plane crash lands, and they have to walk on glass, metal, maybe even burning material, they will not fare well. A pair of decent shoes may be the difference between making it out. Or not.

Later,
Dan

As far as plane crashes go.... not too many walk away. I've never heard of anyone dying in a plane crash because their cut feet bled them out.

But I do agree that sturdy walking shoes should be worn when traveling. However, now at airline check-in, if you can't get them off and on fast, the line behind you brings out the pitchforks and torches!
