One thing that often gets overlooked in urban or suburban areas, is that sewers will back up, especially if you have housing above you. City water and sewer rely on pumps to keep things moving, and even a well stocked hardsite can be rendered uninhabitable by a couple artesian toilets. The best way to deal with this is to jam some plastic tarp or other material into the outside cleanout trap, as the backup will affect the sink drains and washer as well. The good news is that it will take a long time to get there, otherwise storm outages would do this routinely, and we don't normally hear about this unless flooding is involved as well.

Q. If you knew North Korea launched a nuke and had 45 minutes to prepare for an EMP attack what would you do??
A. One thing I would do is copy all of my financial records: most recent bank statement, recent brokerage statements, electronic copy of pension award letters, etc. to a thumb drive for fear that some of the data storage systems will be slow to recover if not be destroyed entirely.
With that said, I think I will soon create a digital copy of my birth certificate and some other important documents and save these to a thumb drive just in case. After all, 45 minutes isn't all that much time.

Who is going to pay these benefits and how?

That's not a concern in rural areas, since a septic system is all gravity. In many areas, water would be much more of a problem. A windmill and water tower would be an excellent idea. The world is full of sophisticated 19th century technology that works just fine. I wish wood stoves still had burners like the old parlor stoves. I used to pop popcorn in a cast iron pot directly over the wood coals by just pulling the burner lid and putting the pot over the opening.

45 minutes for EMP prep is nonsense. Turn off the main breakers to your house and live without power for a week. Turn off the gas too, because natural gas depends on pumps, and turn off the water because that is pumped too. Spend the week making lists, and then the next year developing alternatives. Then turn everything off again, and see what you forgot.

Even the most self proclaimed Prepper in this thread is not going to do that!!!! Are you crazy??? ;)

One of my stoves has those lids that can be removed.

Good point; it is important to have hard copies of your house Deed and titles to any vehicles and accounts.
As for those in the country that have septic systems I would suggest that you stop disposing of any paper products down the toilet this will virtually eliminate the need for pumping which wouldn't be possible anyways!

Not certain as to why at that point. Gun would come more in handy LOL

I only got 45 minutes, the FIRST thing I'm going to do is to try to ensure that my family is with me as well as the basics. By this time, a piece of paper won't mean squat unless you're using it to start a fire.

AFAIK, throwing the breakers won't help much in your house.

Airplanes aren't connected to the grid, but they're subject to EMP as well, which is why military planes are "hardened" against EMP.
Modern electronics are very sensitive, and it won't take much to fry some trace somewhere in your computer. It only takes one...

If you care enough, set up your office as a Faraday cage.
