The proper thing to do might involve shielding all the good scotch that's in the house.

All most of us can do is speculate...logic says the more dire the circumstances the more strict freedoms could become...
"They" (contingency planners) know they could never really disarm the public...in recent instances they have banned any public possession by civilians...likely to start there with zero tolerance...if they really wanted to actually confiscate firearms they would likely use purchase records and concealed carry permit applications to start...long before they would do massive random searches etc...

I lost some guns in a boating accident. Added, I've sold some guns to guys and have kept the paperwork, just hope I can find that paperwork, know I have it laying around somewhere.

The reality is they HAVE to go to records and search EVERY home, at that point, it's too late for anyone of us.

The added reality is the government can only hope that people do NOT organize. This is where there is strength in numbers. Citizens NEED to realize that they are stronger if they work together, NOT every man for themself.

I know it sounds kind of crazy, but everyone needs a CB radio. Primitive, but how else could neighbors talk?

As for the blown up transformers. I have heard the time estimates on replacement. I also heard the Kuwait oil well fires would burn for years. It was wrapped up much quicker than that.

The bigger question is how does the government intend to talk? Think about how many agencies, both at the state and federal level that need to try and work with each other to try and maintain some kind of civil order.

I thought of that. Their increasingly complicated systems barely work now.

Again, who knows what actually happened but it seems their war ships might be better served in maintaining situational awareness using an old 1950s radar set.

Actually they want the enemy to organize. Much easier to detect and confront. A random, individual enemy is much harder for our military to oppose.

Bingo.

The fact is larger areas will be easier to "maintain" due to population density, but the question becomes, how easy is easy on their end, and how rural can they spread out all their resources and still maintain control? Most mechanized units will have to deal with cities, period.

The wild card is having people in charge who actually have a brain, and may not follow orders blindly. If the crap really does hit the fan and the military is engaged with the US civilian population, grunts following orders blindly are also a wild card IMO.

That said, if the crap really does hit the fan, having a gun is NOT a bad thing.

It would be hard to use "purchase records" for gun confiscation if the systems are fried.

by purchase records I really meant background checks...granted they only reflect OTC sales..but you can bet that the feds have their databases shielded and most likely have analog micro hard copies...
It's unlikely they would go after personal civilian arms anyway as long as they are not being slung around in public...What they very well could do and would do if national security was part of the equation...is use specialized scanning technology to locate and pinpoint masses of munitions and under ML they don't need any warrants...
