Eggs & Egg Prices

Neighbor sells eggs for a dollar dozen. It used to be fifty cents but he doubled prices two years ago or so

We have been charging 2.50 a dozen and I think I could get more. Our eggs are fresh and yummy! And the Aurocanas lay colored shells that people will pay a premium for.

The problem we have is it's against the law for me to sell off the farm so I can't take them to work and that's where I could sell the most.

I dropped off 4 dozen eggs to one of our customers this afternoon. Our chickens free range during the day and we lock them up at night. We have Rhode Island Reds and Golden Comets. They both lay nice brown eggs, however the goldens lay really large eggs.

One thing I found quite surprising was to see a hen catch a mouse and kill it and eat it. I've seen them do this several times.

My RIR's will eat pretty much anything. We sell out of our eggs all the time. We get up to $5 per dozen. One thing that surprised me is the difference between breeds. My RIR's are very agressive. The new girls are Marans. Much quieter, less agressive.

We were told by the lady we got him from that he is an Americana. He is good looking and has a very nice loud "crow".

Not condoning it but how do people think they get eggs for ~$1 or less.

i sell eggs at the farmers market for $3.50/doz. no trouble selling out of the 5 or 6 dozen i bring twice a week. other vendors are getting $3.75 but my eggs are a mix of pullet eggs and 'regular' eggs while theirs are all pretty big. one vendor asks $4.50/doz for jumbos. not sure how they decide what is big and what is jumbo.

We buy our farm fresh eggs from our neighbors son (Farmer William) and he charges $3.00 a dozen. Best part of the deal is all we have to do is call and he brings the eggs to the door!

One thing for sure is they are fresh and clean. Guess we are donating to his college fund!

One of the kids at a farm down the road raises chickens for one of his 4H projects. He sells cleaned candled eggs for $1.00 a dozen I periodically give the kid a few bucks & tell him to put me on his list for the appropriate number. They're clean, candled & every size & color you can imagine. It's fun to see this 10 year old business man with his notepad & pencil. Such a good kid.
