Dump bed clearance?

How much space, clearance is there suppose to be on the RTV?
My wife was giving hers a workout today and notice not once but three or four times that a twig would catch the plastic lip by the operator screen.

When closed, I have about 3/8 inch between the plastic lip and the top of the bed. When traveling open, there is more than 3 inches between the bottom of the bed and the plastic lip.

I've had stuff fall between, so if anything, I would prefer there be less space or some rubber flap to close the gap.
