I just bought new blades for the mower deck on my bx22 I was wondering if these blades need to be sharpened before istalling?? They are pretty sharp but not like razor sharp or anything. Anyone?

Niles,

No dumb questions on this forum, just questions and hopefully answers.

The new blades are ready to go out of the box. Remember to put them on exactly as the ones you take off. Some folks put them on backwards.

Blades don't need to be razor sharp. You would be surprised how rounded they can get and still do a good job.

The only thing that I do with new blades is to check that they are in balance. I have on occasion found that the new blades are out of balance. If that is the case, I take a little off the back side of the blade to get them balanced.

no such thing as a dumb question! new blades are good to go, no blade is RAZOR sharp. might want to check for balance tho. unbalenced blade will do more harm than dull blades.

I used to work in lawn care and we found out that if the blades are NOT razor sharp they last longer and actually cut the grass better. When blades are sharpen like a razor they dull much faster.
