I've got an ASV RC 100 I bought about a year ago for personal use on my farm. Have not used it for about 3 months and battery is dead. I've tried and tried to jump and charge it thru the metal post in the rear of the machine. These are not the battery post but auxiliary post wired out from the battery to use for jump starting. The manuals I got off the internet do not once mention the battery location. It is not visible anywhere. I assume it's under the cab. The manual does say to raise the cab the lift arms must be raised which i can't do if it won't crank.

Am I doing something wrong using the auxiliary post.

How can I raise the arms with a dead battery.

The battery reads 5.25 volts and charging makes no difference.

PLease help me. Also don't tell me I should't have got an ASV. I already know that.

If you can put the positive jump lead on the starter motor, the negitive can be grounded anywhere then start. Leave the jump leads attached while you raise the arms. If the battery isn't holding a charge it is more than likley stuffed and you should also have the alternator checked out as they are prone to failure,(diode problem if I remember rightly).

Unfortunately, the battery is under the cab on the left side behind seat. The arms need to be lifted to tilt cab up. Arms are lifted by forklift or a FEL. You can pull 2 cylinder pins to lift arms quickly, or slowly hoisted up while cyl fluid slowly leaks thru the system. Secure the arms, if they fall while cab is lifted, you & machine will suffer a lot of pain.

The battery compartment is quickly loaded with debris, causing battery terminals to corrode. I make a point to clean the battery posts every time the cab gets lifted.

Not a fun or safe procedure.

Thanks tonyo and mckaskey. Good to know I can raise the arms manually.

Cili, It doesn't even make a sound. Voltmeter reads 5.25 even after charging at 10 amps for 12 hours.

Have you tried jumping with good high amp vehicle or the like and good cables. If it's not doing anything with good jump then we need to look at other possibilities. Found it best to take one step at a time. No doubt your battery or altenator may be bad but if it's battery then it would certainly be better to get running to lift arms. Be sure your quick attach button is in lock and the high & low flow buttons are centered. Check these and if that doesnt work let us know because ther's a couple more things that it could be. How do you like the 100?

They had a track 2003 ASV 30 listed locally for $7500 OBO with 413 hours, dirt bucket, grapple bucket and limb shear attactment.

It sold really fast but at about 3500 pounds I was concerned on our hills. bucket load limit was 800 pounds. Sure the small size would have been good for making woods look like a park.

I had problems with my battery and was having trouble diagnosing it. Turned out that a wiring harness clamp on the underside of the cab was corroded and causing a high resistance short on the battery when the cab was in the down position. Keep an eye out for that. It still boggles my mind that asv didn't engineer things so that you could lift the cab with the loader arms down!

Mate, you are lucky to have a cab that lifts at all. Try working on a Rayco. :mad:

Sucks,..doesn't it?.
I have a 4810,batt is the only thing thats easy to get at,but the rest is a huge pain in the arse.
I wish some one would've beat the p!ss outa me for even looking at that contraption :ashamed:

tonyoz I learned a long time ago there are only two kinds of people; those who are 'gathers' and those who are 'distributors'.

While I only have mainly junk equipment today (all I need since I just 'play' with it) I do not part with it even when perhaps I should. I know I am a 'gather' so I just do not price stuff.

That RC100 looked like it was a neat size machine. Not huge but enough size/power keep from always wishing for more on every job. I miss an ASV30 with a regular bucket, grapple and shears attachments for $7500 with 431 hours but never did get to eyeball it so it may or may not have been a deal but I was concerned with the 800 pound load limit I would be pushing the limits to often plus I really just wanted it more than I needed it. :D

Now that looks more like the ASV 30 but I did not know if maybe the RC100 version looked different at some point in time. What turned me on to this class of machine is the guy who trimmed a lot of trees for me had a rubber tired JD 250 that was awesome to watch work. He had a dirt buck with grapple feature. I saw I would prefer tracks around the place.

For that price you can buy a decent full size wheel loader.
That loader will run cirkels around that CTL and at a fraction of the operating costs.

Gale I have no idea what the market is in your neck of the woods so can't comment on prices. The biggest downfall of ASV machines is their undercarage (my thoughts only) and the Cat CTL's also used the same until just resonantly. The belts on the Cat in the photo look in good nick from what can be seen.
