Duetz fuel pump???

I have a friend with a Duetz engine on a wood chipper. The fuel pump has failed. Is there any reason he can't bypass it and put in an electric?

I would think that if you knew the output pressure of the pump and the capacity of the pump, you could replace it with a comparable electric. However, since Duetz is still an available source for parts, is there a reason to try to rig it, rather than to just replace it?
I thought about doing the same thing with an auto in the driveway, but finding the right replacement is a problem. Most sources don't want to quote you the specs on a pump, just sell you a new one.

Several factors. This is on a wood chipper. It is almost impossible to get at to replace. It is a 1984 model. There has been an ice storm and his phone is ringing off the hook. You get the picture. If there is a pressure bypass, what would extra pressure do to the injector pump?

go ahead and bypass it whe have had custoners do that all the time the injector pump does not care if there is a little more pressure than normal it will run just fine
