Providing your frame will handle the extra weight, 5000 axles with brakes on both are the better idea. Not much more money and gives you a lot of margin for error. Even if the frame is not designed for 10K, I think I would still go with the 5K axles but weld on it somewhere or steel stamp it that it is 7000 pound rated in case you sell it later on. I have been searching for a used trailer with 5K axles and brakes but none to be found. I may end up building my own. I am not a fan of the south end being angle. Why not carry the channel iron all the way rather than stop at the fenders and switch over to angle. Not that much more weight but lots more capacity in channel.

The frame doesn't "handle" the axle weight.
I agree that the frame may not have as much capacity as 5K axles would otherwise allow, but that would have to be accepted.

We have a lot of 7k trailers down here with NO brakes. I ordered and installed brake assemblies and brake drums on my trailer not long after I brought it used. I did both axles and added a battery backup with a break away switch. The whole upgrade cost be about $400 a few years ago. It was money well spent. Yes, I did both axles. That may be overkill for some, I will make sure all of mine have brakes on all wheels.
