Mine will do split point bits.

And i LOVE my DD.

Mind you...you will never get more fighting going on in this site as you will by mentioning
1. Drill doctors
2. gold
3. Politics
4.Best Tractor

and in that order

You missed Ag vs R4 tires.

I can sharpen bits on a grinder too, and sometimes do large ones. But the Drill Dr. puts a completely different finish on the bit, due to the tiny diamond grit size on the wheel. It is so smooth it shines like polished. To duplicate this finish you'd have to have a really fine wheel on your grinder, and then of course you'd likely burn the bit. Maybe it doesn't matter but they sure do cut butter-smooth after visiting the Dr.

There's no point in my developing the skill to free hand grind bits. I only sharpen them once a year and DD lets me do a great job.

Darn, that's what I thought until today. I have two drill doctors, and thought this is the only thing. This morning I watched a few vidios on u-tube and thought, what the heck, I'll go play with some scrap steel and the forgotton bits. They cut like butter, and just with the help of a vidio and skilled tradesman that will pass it along to us. Even at my age I still learn.

I too use the dd, but I do not buy expensive bits. I just sharpen more often.
