Drill Bits

It's better when you own your own machine shop as I do. I deal with Production Tool and Supply, KBC Tools www.kbctools.com and www.productiontool.com in Detroit, Michigan, MSC, and Enco which is the discount division of MSC. Enco doesn't have the large selection that the other 2 have and you will wait a few days for delivery, but their prices are quite low. Their website is: www.usenco.com. If we are in process on a job and I need some specialized tooling, I use Production Tool. I can pick it up the same day and they carry a lot of odd ball items. However, their prices are quite high. For the hobbyist or homeowner, Enco or Grizzly www.grizzly.com are the answer for inexpensive cutting tools or machinery. Just be aware that the quality is usually Chinese, not American unless stated.

I've had a cheap set of drill bets for the last dozen years. I do everything wrong with them, drill too fast, I never lubricat, I drill through dirt, dust or whatever's in the way.

I use a Drill Doctor from Home Depot which cost around $80 and it just takes a seconds to sharpen a bit. I tried all the fancy angle tools for sharpening on a grinder whithout much luck except killing time.

When I need to drill through steel I just sharpen the bits I'm going to use and when I'm done I just put them away.

I have been watching the ads for the drill Dr. are they as good as they claim,do they stay sharp? I never had much luck sharpening by hand-Thanks

The Drill Doctors do a good job. They are not commercial quality and I am not sure how long they will last but they do a good job of sharpening and are easy to use.
