I recently purchased a Yanmar 1720D from an auction house on e-bay. I love it, but there are some parts missing. I thought I had the problem of the missing drawbar hitch bracket licked when the guy at TSC sold me on the drawbar that attaches to the 3ph. That was before I read a thread here discussing how dangerous that setup is. Anyone have a clue where you can get a drawbar hitch bracket that fits a 1720D?

TSC and the like, used to sell a drawbar bracket for the older 8N Fords, because the 8N's didn't come from the factory with a drawbar. Instead they had the 3pt drawbar like you have, with stabilizer bars that fixed the 3pt arms in place. I don't know if this bracket would match, but it may be "re-workable" for your Yanmar.

You might find it easier to add the stabilizer bars, which are flat steel about 1/4" x 1" that are pinned at one end over the pin at the end of the 3pt drawbar, and then at the other end into the tractor-end of the top arm. This forms a triangle that won't let the three point arms move. Now that worked because the hyd. system allowed it to work. Not sure if the Yanmar would like its 3pt arms tied down that way. It might try to break something. There was a picture of this arrangement posted recently on TBN and I think it was in the discussion of turnbuckles (chains) vs. flat adjustable bars for anti-sway of 3pt equipment. I will look.

On the 8N, when the arms were tied down, it allowed a one-way ram (maybe a two way, but don't think so) to be plumbed into the system so the ram would work when the 3pt quadrant lever was raised.

A local welding shop can probably make you one. If one is not available I could make one for you.

Try some of the importers on this board. They get parts tractors some times and sell used parts. That part is not asked for very often. They should have it.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm checking with some importers and will check into fabricating if I don't have success.

To clarify, I don't have anything underneath my tractor to attach the drawbar to. That's the part I am looking for. There are six bolt holes in the rear underneath but nothing attached to insert a drawbar into. I have figured out that the bolt holes are for M12 metric bolts. Beyond that, I have no idea what drawbar I would need for the bracket that is missing.

The drawbar of a 1720D looks like a heavy round pipe with a flat section welded on the end. The flat section has a hole drilled in it to mount a ball. There is a u shaped bracket that mounts to the tractor and the pipe can slide to two positions in the bracket, either close to the tractor where it is pretty much out of the way or extended to tow things. Hope this helps.

I should have a YM1720D drawbgar on a parts tractor. I will look today. Send your e-mail address and I'll send a picture of the drawbar so you can see what it looks like.

I always hesitate to put my real e-mail address on any public forum, but the prospect of someone actually having the parts I need is too good to pass up! Note that I need the bracket as well as the drawbar. I look forward to the pics of both. Thanks.

You can always send a private message throught the board so it isn't publicly seen.

ok...my drawbar has a pin type setup instead of a hole for a ball...guess I could adapt that....anyone know what type tongue weight and overall weight I can handle with this hitch on a 1700?

I think you can pull pretty much any weight your trailer can handle as long as the the draw bar is mounted below the axle, you don't lose traction, and tongue weight doesn't exceed 200#, (has to be tongue heavy).

I was looking for this exact part last summer and realised that several Iohn Deere compacts are really Yanmars with funny looking sheet metal painted green. As I explored this I discovered that the JD750 used the exact drawbar arrangement as my YM2310. The dealer stated the parts were still available, but the price was over $100 for all the required parts. Just another possible parts source to explore. One thing, you should expect to figure which tractor that has the same part as yours. I did this by measuring the bolt spacing on the mounting bracket on my tractor and compared it to the JD's. Just my 2cents worth.
