I am no expert on tractors but I do know how to safely get around on one, whether it be driving or pulling on a wrench to fix it. I am still learning and thanks to you guys on TBN the learning process is easier.

I have a 1957 Ferguson TO35 that I have been all through and rebuilt the hydraulics. I have had the pump out and disassembled, had to make replacement rollers that go in the top plate, everything works fine. It has started acting cranky but I think the leak that developed in the hydraulic line may be that issue. Anyway, what is the proper way to think of and operate the draft control? I know the other lever controls raising and lowering the implement, but I need a Dummy 101 course on the draft control operation.

Thanks in advance guys. And thanks for answering my questions on my ballist post.

Get your plow hooked up, adjusted and ready to go. Raise the draft control lever all the way up. This will raise the lift up regardless of where the position control is set. Put the position control lever down as if to lower the lift to the ground. Lift should not fall if the draft control lever is up. Start across your field slowly, and start lowering the draft control lever until the plow is in the ground about as far as you want it to go, being sure to keep your RPM's up, your plowing speed about like you will be running as you plow, and don't let the plow down so deep as to do a lot of spinning. Set the draft control lever at that point so it will stay there, and now use the position control lever to raise and lower the plow at the ends of your rows. You can experiment with raising or lowering the DC lever as you plow to get the feel of what all happens, but this will get you going. I had a TO-35 for a long time. They are great plowing tractors.

GaKub, good reading, I appreciate your reply.

backdoor, you put it in terms that was easily understood, that is what I call farmers talk. Thanks a bunch buddy. I haven't sunk a plow yet, but started the tractor and played with the lift a few minutes and I can tell you know what you are talking about. When you understand the function of something, it makes using it a whole lot better. Again, thanks.

I usually use my Yanmar 2200 to lay off my garden which I am doing tomorrow. The same procedure you told me to do with the Ferguson I am going to try on the rice paddy tractor. From my experience with it, I bet it will work the same.
