Dozer Blade for in the Woods

On June 4th I picked up the under carriage parts. These track chains are over 1000 lbs each. I couldn't pick
them with the chain over the front of the bucket.

Wow. I knew you had to have a working tractor to do a job like this.

Where do you go to buy new track chains? Third-party suppliers? Is there a "standard"
chain/sprocket pitch? Or a few standards, like chainsaws?

Great story. Thx for posting.

My problem would be knowing what I'm buying in a used machine. I don't know what to look for in
regards to undercarriage condition.

I have never refurbed a tracked machine either. I love GG's photo of the worn-out chain, with
obvious wear, cracks, and visible lengthening. His sprocket teeth are pointed, too, which us
m/c owners are always watching.

I am supposed to be helping a friend buy an excavator, so this thread is quite useful.

I always marvel at the patience shown by some of our better mechanics out there. I'm a bit adept mechanical wise but mostly worked with others. My biggest problem is "patience". I don't suffer fools easily and that includes myself. When I reach my patience allotment, I tend to go to dynamite in place of tools.

Great job Gordon. If it were my machine, I probably would have blown it up, however, I would have been happy to assist you.

Thanks for taking the time to write all of that. Very informative for me.

I agree.

And as Luke said, really appreciate the sharing. :)

I'm glad you guys enjoyed my dozer story. It was fun thinking back on it and writing it down.

I agree, good info, nice write up. Thanks for sharing.

My wife will hate you for it... just makes me "need" a dozer that much more... *grin*

I just told the wife that I "need" a dozer. She actually agreed but told me I have to finish building Gordon's land plane that I stole from him first:p

I need to add a brush guard to my dozer as well. Thanks for posting pics of your build. I may steal some of your design.
