Posthole Digger Down pressure

Can a FIL be used to apply down pressure on a 3P post hole digger? I was thinking if you put the bucket down on the ground with a little pressure that would transfer back to the PHD as down pressure. Just asking.

I think he meant another tractor's FEL would be used to push down the PHD on the first tractor.

I've never tried it but it sounds dangerous.

FIL = texting lingo for father-in-law. Some of 'em would work great for down pressure on the auger ! All ya need is a little perch for them to sit on. :thumbsup:

Not trying to give you a bad time, but I just couldn't resist that image. Just for fun, of course... that wouldn't be safe. I'm pretty sure the other guys are correct about using the loader like that... the 3 point only holds position in the downward direction and will lift up.

Actually I've done that.
Last summer it was hot and dry and the ground was very hard. I have a post hole auger on an L3830 and it was making powder but not moving down much. My wife pulled up on her B2620 and slowly lowered the loader bucket until the bottom of the bucket was touching the top of the PHD frame. A little down pressure was applied (not much) and the auger started moving down. She immediately raised the bucket and backed away. The safety guys will jump on this but the way it was done did not feel unsafe at all.
