Dogs running loose

You are implying that my brother might have been in the wrong!?!?! How dare you!!!

Yes, I'm implying your brother could be wrong, or your brother is a pusswack. If someone came onto MY property to take my dog, the police would of definately been involved. I'm sorry, someone comes onto YOUR property and takes YOUR dog without your concent???? (unless those people taking your dog are with law enforcement and they have a reason to be there).

That was what I couldn't believe, either. There's a name for that, called theft.

If it's MY dog on MY property, I wouldn't consider it theft, but kidnapping. I'd treat the person the same way if he were trying to take my wife off my property forcibly.

This is why the police would be called on my end AFTER the fact...

He didn't even know that the dog was gone until the ACO called him, so there's more to the story than I know.

Sigarms my aunt sets her bag out just before the garbage lady runs. This is how everyone does it on her route. She likes a bare bag so she can stop jump out and throw it in her ton truck. No fancy garbage trucks or cans for us poor people😩. If ya want dogs find away to keep them on your own property. I have two and they have a large fenced run with an electric fence wire to keep them honest.

There seems to be a LOT more to the story you don't know. If your brother didn't know his dog was missing until animal control called him, I'm not certain how you can't see at best he is a irresponsible dog owner.

Just don't understand how your dog can be missing and you don't know it until Animal Control calls you to tell you they have em. If your brother didn't know the dog was missing, not certain how he would know someone was on his property and take his dog in the first place .

Apologies, different story on my end. Some of my neighbors just leave food out with their trash right outside their home for days. It's like a calling card for ANY animal to stop by for a buffet.

Likewise, if our dogs are left outside unattended, we have a fenced in area where we can leave them out and not worry about what they want to get themselves into.

When you see dogs running, just go outside and shoot at a target you set up, or if no neighbors are in the direction of the dogs shoot towards the dogs. Hopefully the noise will scare the dogs away. It may take a couple times.

Bottle rockets work better.

One of the first things I did before I moved into my house was build a 6ft fenced in area with a 12ft gate that attached to the rear deck that has french doors that enters my living room because I knew I was going to have German Shepherds for the rest of my life.

I see a lot of people with working dogs around here and they have no place to run and play. Doesn't make any sense to me to not have a good sized area that's contained for the dog.

I bought a kennel and put in a dog door, so that he could go out if he wanted when I'm away. But my dog generally goes with me anyways, and when home alone he's laying on his bed waiting for me to get home. The kennel makes a great chicken run though.

I wanted a dog for almost 20 years before I felt that I was able to properly care for one; so I get frustrated when I see that.

We have the usual BS severed properties among our 100 acre parcels. Anyway, there was some issue with my farmer neighbor and his new city slicker neighbor with a typical family pet. The farmer asked his new neighbors if they wanted to borrow his gun. Bewildered, they asked why. Well to shoot the dog. They asked, why shoot the dog? Well it doesn't listen he said. So you have to shoot it. He is gone now, but that interchange was priceless.

I do not usually make too much noise on a Sunday around my neck of the woods but one of my pastures was badly in need of mowing so I had at it this afternoon. This particular pasture lays on top of a ridge back surrounded by trees. Once in the tree line the slope is near vertical.

So, it's hot, I am going round and round when I see a dog that I do not recognize by the tree line. I can see that the dogs rump area looks kind of "hunched" over. Then I see some blood. I shut the mower down and call out the dog whom is friendly. A sort of beagle mix, she is covered in flies going for the bloody spots. She did have a collar so I used my belt as a leash trying to lead her to the house. She was pretty played out after maybe five feet so I tied her to a post and ran to the house to alert my wife and grab my cart to bring her to the house. My wife gave her a bit of water while I called the emergency weekend number for our vet whom agreed to see us at the clinic.

Long story short, the wounds turned out to be bites not pellets. Though pellets might have been kinder than the infection that she has going on. By this time, she was in shock so for now she is on fluids and other drugs. If she can make it through the night and stabilize, they will clean her up and do what they can to tend to her many wounds which are mostly on her back end but also on her head. She was a mess though, wet, covered in mud and maggot larvae. The vet could not find a good vein so he had to put the needle into her jugular.

I am pretty certain that she got nailed by a coyote or even a bobcat or perhaps a larger dog. How she made it up the slope to our place and for me to be out mowing and find her is miraculous. She seems to be a fighter so hopefully the saga will continue. She is in our "rescue loop" so if and when she bounces back will be placed in a loving home.

Just another reason to keep your pets controlled.

^^^^Good for you!!! Some years ago I was coming out of the woods and saw two beagles acting lost and out of sorts, looking like they'd been dumped. I was leaving town as soon as I got home so stopped by the local store and mentioned them to the owner, who was the person who held the town together.
>
The next time I saw those pups an old guy had taken them in and they were riding in the front box of his 4-wheeler. I don't know who dumped them but in that case they did the dogs a favor... it's just too bad that they couldn't have been responsible enough to find the dogs a home themselves.

She did make it through the night. Having stabilized a bit, the vets were cleaning her up to address the wounds. No easy feat as she was covered in mud, etc. She did have a collar with a phone number on. I traced the number to an address some 15 or 20 miles away from me. The vet contacted the owner who relinquished ownership to avoid the hefty bills. So, onward and upward. She will likely spend another 2 or 3 days then go to a foster that is capable of dealing with the time and care it will take for her to heal then will be placed. I am going to swing by the vets tomorrow to see her.

When we first moved to our place it was not uncommon to hear coonhounds running on the acreage behind our place. We would lay in bed listening to them coming down the holler and then the howls when they hit the electric fence.
One morning I went outside to find a coonhound on my deck. He had a collar and tag so I fed and watered him then called the number on the tag. The owner thanked me, came and picked up his dog. Two weeks later same dog is outside on my deck again. When I checked the collar for the phone number again I noticed it was a different number. Turned out it was a guy I knew from church. He was shocked to hear that his latest star hound purchase had a history of going AWOL.

There will be dogs rewarding you tenfold in the heaven you go to. Good job!

The Weekend before last we had company over and I made corn on the cob. My wife forgot and put the cobs where the dogs could get to them. The Border Collie, a real food hound, consumed a few. I did not know some cobs were missing (who counts?) but noticed a little after she did that corn cobs do not process. OUCH. A vet trip, some bloody stools and finally today her stool was back to normal. I lucked out and will keep an eye on the corn cobs from the guests next time.

I'm thinking we could be related...

My vet named her Lucky

LUCKY.png

Stopped by an olders guys house years ago on the way to town as I saw him chasing a dog (Lucky) because he looked like he could use some help. The guy was telling me it wasn't his dog, but his neighbors, and it kept running over to his place across the road and he was trying to get the dog into his fenced in area so she wouldn't get hit. Low and behold, dog was running back across the road and got hit GOOD by a car (dog looked like it went under the car). I thought the dog was a good as dead. Somehow the dog survived, just in shock laying on the road not moving. "Owners" were no where to be found, and ran the dog to the vets office that Saturday morning who just happened to be a couple of miles down the road. Told the older guy where I was going to let the "owners" know. Owners showed up at the vets, and low and behold the dog became mine.

Dog didn't have a broken bone in her body. Still can't figure that one out after hearing that "wump!" of a hit.

We found her a good home about 6 months later.

Sad part is people who don't know what responsibility is to have pets also have kids...
