36 months, good lawd, I dunno how we'll make it! Ours ain't yet a year, and she's yeh, handful! She's loveable tho.

Don't give up, they grow up to be great dogs with good instincts. They do everything to test you the 3 years, there is always a bunch for sale (or free) between 14 mo and 28 mo old. They are stubborn (seeing if they can be the alpha), and like to "expand" their boundaries. Some will try to claim many sq miles other are happy with a few acres, few accept less unless trained. Many give up because of chicken killing, I have free range waterfowl and chickens, and THAT issues is trained out of them early, yet each dog takes different levels of correction. For some it's a harsh word, other act like you need to kill them to get them to give up. We found a water in a spray bottle and hitting the eyes works wonders (YMMV) on even the hardest dog.
They are capable of great violence but are just big teddy bears with everything that belongs to them (owners included)
I still do not know how they can "disappear' in the middle of a field with no cover but they ALL know that trick by they time they are 3. I'll look for them and they "pop" up right behind me.

The do want to be your partner just do it different than most other dogs.

That's what we keep hearing, that they're pretty crazy as teenagers.

I never met a dog I didn't like...!
have you ment enough of them? I have seen a few violent dogs that wouldn’t last long around me… blame who you want I personally I don’t care and don’t know who was to blame although i had a idea but nonetheless the result was frightening.

I got one that will scare anyone, I let her stay aggressive when we had a spree of tweakers trying to steal stuff. A couple of visits by Honey through the drivers windows cured that...
She is the sweetest dog, once I do the introduction but if not she is 90 lbs of fury and can be sent to a target. Most of the others will growl on command and puff up to twice their size, comes in handy to stop drunks being stupid.
My shy dog is 150+ and will sit back (or in front of my wife). I pity the fool that messes with the wife, that includes myself.

Really you just have to learn to understand your dog. They are not crazy or dumb just think for themselves. Your thinking and their thinking is not yet in sync. They just have their moments.
As of a moment ago Jethro (just turned 3) is still growling at his dad over everything. He thinks he should be in charge and is a very vocal dog. I think he has 10 levels of growls and gobs different barks. The old guy ignores him most of the time but when they lock horns is a circus, 2 giant dogs can make a mess.
Now he knows fighting is not allowed but he does not have full self control yet, and has to be reminded frequently.

Yeh, me and here are starting to see eye to eye more and more. She is VERY smart! She's more a handful for my wife and step-son's gf who lives with us.

It took my wife 15 years to become assertive with the big lumps. Once she convinced them she outrankes them (mostly), they mind her just fine. For while we had wet dogs and a woman with holstered spray bottle. :ROFLMAO:

Happy 12th Birthday Molly !

We still walk 1-2 miles a a day depending on how she's feeling. Diabetic, deaf and half blind. Other than that she feels great! 🤓

Electronic collar on so I can get her attention when needed. I always used this harness instead of leash on collar.

Taking a break on the back porch swing after a hard day supervising yard work and patrolling the perimeter...

What is that strange noise...

Nothing to be concerned about, now where was I? Oh yeah...

Smart dogs are like that... they get bored and get into trouble. They need a job, unlike some breeds which are happy to sit on the floor waiting for you to notice them.
