I don't keep track of how much I spend on vet bills. Aside from the above mentioned 2k; that same year he had a front leg injury, a breathing problem which landed us at the emergency vet 100 miles away, (He eventually coughed up a piece of nylon strap which apparently had been caught in his airway for 6 years) and various other ailments... most of them work related.

Last winter is when Zeke injured his ACL, and the vet wanted to perform surgery on both limbs for a correction and to prevent further injury.

Zeke is the kind of GSD that is either at complete idle, or it's full speed ahead, and there's no in between speed.

I told the vet, unless it's absolutely necessary to perform the surgery, I'd wait until winter and ice is over with so Zeke would have a better chance of healing properly.

The vet also stated that he did not know how his staff would be able to control Zeke after a surgery.

I chose to postpone any surgery because I thought what good is the surgery if Zeke cannot heal properly from it.

Since then his leg has a lot of scar tissue around the injury and what I'm told this helps protect the joint.

Also I've switched vets and the new vets price for the surgery, if needed is almost half the cost.

Here's a pic of Zeke today doing what he likes to do.

Nice looking dog.

The only way that I know of to keep a dog like him "controlled" is in a crate; for my last dog keeping her in one was a challenge of it's own, and she was nowhere neat as big as Zeke.
Hopefully he won't need the surgery.

2 days ago, my GSD hurt his rear leg again (similar to human's ACL) that has a lot of scar tissue.

Yesterday he was hating life inside the house and not running around.

Glad to report, today he is not limping around and barely favors his right rear leg while walking.

Going to let him outside today while I'm snowblowing, but will not be throwing his Frisbee for a while for him to catch.

Nice stairs !!!!

Yes, he will tolerate a crate if necessary, but then the problem is letting him out to go #1 and #2.

It would be like the green Christmas tree light at the drag strip and that's not good for healing.

We hopefully think he will not have to have this surgery, he'll be 7 this summer.

Nice stairs !!!!

Yes, we like our flat stairs (bottom of ramp is about 3' from the garages 3' wide entrance door) and you might of noticed the garden wagon staged on the deck loaded with firewood.

The woodshed is built on the backside of the garage with access inside the back wall of the garage.

We have 2 of these garden wagons, we pull them through the garage and into the woodshed, fill'em up with firewood and can pull them into the house and sit next to the wood burning stove.

I was looking at what I thought were stairs above the dogs head, sleeping on a sofa? Post 2835

But I am sure your other stairs are nice too:thumbsup:

Sorry you are correct, I guess I was tired and I know I'm old.

The stairs go with the theme of the 2000 sq. ft. log home, there's a loft area, full bedroom and bath (use to be the original master bedroom) upstairs.

Now it's used by me for afternoon naps...

I'll have to take a few pictures (front and back), the picture in your post shows Zeke just in front of the covered front deck and further back (centered) is the wife's greenhouse.

Only pics I have now are below that show the garage with an attached covered breezeway and the rightside of the garage showing the woodshed attached to the rear.
