My previous dog, Lab+Mastiff, didn't like to be washed/bathed at all. Eventually got her to accept it (I'm more stubborn). Found a great way to do a quick, partial clean is to use a bucket and just drop their legs, one at a time, to clean up/off. Mostly paws and legs that get muddy. One can use warmer water.

Current dog/puppy (Lab+Mastiff+Pit) gets massively dirty/muddy: she might like water more than our ducks! I tether her (very short leash/tie) to our deck railing and hose her off. She tolerates it. Biggest struggle is in drying her off. She's a bag of squirrels (with big teeth)!

We have two Springer Spaniels that just love a bath and we have to forceably keep them from jumping in the tub while the other is in it. Thankfully, the last bath was when they discovered Mr Skunk in the yard. Not a good day.

Dang - if I were to take and post another picture of my Chocolate Lab - Olly - you too could see him, snoring, and in his favorite sleeping place. Right in the dead center of my big 'ol air bed. I've tried countless times to get him to move out in the living room on the davenport or recliner - - I've given up. He's found his home.

My yellow lab took a bit to like our above ground pool but now she loves it. Hard to get her out at times.

You could have one that like water like the one in this video, it always makes me laugh.

Toby dives into muddy pond and won't come out ORIGINAL created and owned by @work?#wewalk! - YouTube

I'm very worried that my puppy is going to turn out to be like Toby! She will thrust her head and nose down into any bit of water that she finds (even just a little standing water) as she runs along. I guess the following picture portended things to come (this was when she was about 3 mos; she's now 10 mos):

Okay, here is a gross dog habit. I live on the salt water and otters and seals often sunbathe on my dock float section. Particularly the otters have a short (poor) digestive system and end up defecating on my float a lot at certain times of the year. The otters in my area mostly eat crab (shell and all) as well as fish and whatever else. When I moved in my neighbor told me his dogs like to go onto my dock and roll in the rotting crab and fish crap and asked if I minded. I told him that I was going to be very firm on my dock rules and that his dogs were free to do as they please on the condition that they do not expose my dogs to the habit. So far so good but his dogs do come up to my yard afterwards before they head home. If anyone thinks mud is bad, think about what rotting crapped fish and crab smells like. Not as bad as the aforementioned skunk smell however :D

Crawfish are just as bad. The same smell as rotted shrimp. We have crawfish in the back yard. Went to let the dogs back inside one day and was greeted by this God awful smell  Immediately herded the dogs back outside till I had a minute to give them a bath.

This went on for a couple days till I was out in the yard and saw one of the dogs fixing to roll. Yelled to him to halt and went running over to investigate. The smell from that one tiny critter about knocked me over.

My last dog really liked to roll in the smelly stuff. One of her favorite things was to roll in a nice fresh pile of moose dung, getting it all over her neck; then come rub against my leg so that I would reach down to pat her. I swear she did it just to hear me say "Eww, not again!!!"
Before heading to New York one day I gave her a bath. "YES!, I thought, No moose crap to roll in, so she will stay clean smelling for a while!"
That lasted about half of a day. I was sitting by a stream eating lunch when she came up for me to pat her. EWWWW! She had found a pile of otter *&^% to roll in. An otter's diet is very similar to a seal; lots of fish and fresh water mussels.

Our little Boston found a cache of duck innards left by our son in law after a duck hunt. They were several days old, and she rolled in them until her heart's content. I don't see how it could have smelled any worse...and we were about 15 miles from the house. Luckily Sharn Jean had a bottle of water and some paper towels, so she got a bath of sorts, such that she rode in the floor in the back seat with all the windows open.

All my St. B.'s loved/love to roll in bear and wild turkey poo. Not as smelly as the fish/crustacean/duck guts; but a lot of canine surface area to clean.

Good to know!!! That listing of different brands sure indicates how few manufacturers there probably are out there.

I rent pumps to the local dog food factory for there water treatment ponds. They make the base for quite a few of the different brands of dog food to the individual's specifications. Then ship the base somewhere else for final production and packaging.

My first thought was that someone at there facility got there math wrong when mixing the base ingredients together. My other thought to go along with it, was those brands of dog food use the same base. Most of those dog foods seem to be a generic brands, so I'm wondering if it's the same dog food, just different packaging.

My 12 month old Chocolate Lab - Olly - had his first experience of the third kind yesterday. From inside the house we could hear the - whop/whop of a helicopter coming our way. Olly was obviously excited but I could see he was concerned - never heard a noise such as this but he did want out on the front porch so he could see whatever it was. It was a big military medical helicopter that came VERY low over the house. The pilot saw Olly and waved - Olly got off two enormous WOFFS before the copter passed and was long gone.

Here is Olly - looking for what is coming and, also, trying to be/look brave. View attachment 582877

At least he knew enough to look up. Mine has never even figured out that birds can fly, let alone check out a helicopter.
It's kind of fun watching a puppy grow up and explore his new world; kind of like being young again by proxy.

That's a nice looking spot you have there.

I could see exactly when he saw the copter. Spine of hair raises on his back. Usually he is up on the bench - front paws on the railing. Leaning out into the void - night or day.

Ha, ha - THIS TIME, he decided - where he was when this pic was taken was plenty far enough. He could see all he needed and, yet, he still couldn't figure out what it was.
