Sad day for us.
This morning I found our little Koala sitting at the base of his tree. He was sick. Wildlife Carer came and took him but it's not looking good. He is going to a Koala Hospital. Here he is holding onto my wifes hand.

Any idea what the problem is? Anything to do with the fires?

No, we have been lucky enough to avoid the fires so far.
He usually sits on the lower branches in his tree but we noticed yesterday he stayed up high.
We have had extreme rain lately and he has had a good soaking so maybe he is suffering from that.
The Carer who came suspects that he may have fallen as he had a distended stomach and she believes that is common in a fall.
He certainly seemed to appreciate our attention anyway. We have never had actual contact with him before even though he has been here for 12 months that we know of.
We are both pretty upset about it as we regarded him as family.

Koalas are so cute! My wife wants one lol. 16 deg outside and a sheet of snow/ice is covering everything...yeh I don't think koalas will do too good in our yard. :D

We hope for the best for him and a quick recovery. He was lucky you were close by and could get him care.

thanks for the comments folks. You are a great bunch.
Funny thing. My wife woke me at 3.30 this morning and said, "I smell smoke" There was a strong smoke smell but It was in the middle of a thunderstorm so no hope of a fire thank goodness.
We do worry every time we smell smoke now but we have alarms that should go off if it is serious.
Yes IT, they are cute creatures and would never harm a thing.
