Not to get off track, but out of all the dogs we've had, never had one bit a kid, but by the same token, never left a young child with a dog ALONE together. Generally, when I hear a kit has been bit by a dog that hasn't shown any agression in the past, my first though it exactly what was the kid doing to the dog to get bit in the first place? I've seen some young kids pretty much abuse their parents dogs and the dogs have shown some amazing restraint IMO.
By the same token, when we use to do pet adoption work through the human society at Pet Smart on the weekends, I was amazed at how many kids didn't know how to approach a strange dog, wanting to pet the dog without asking for permission first, and how those kids parents didn't mind what their kids did with "strange" dogs they had no clue about. Only an opinion, but some kids were asking to get bit with strange dogs they would coming running up to all excited wanting to pet without asking for permission first...
Back on track, an older pic of one of my nephews playing with one of our dogs...
