Dog Food Brands........ Good, Bad ?

We started a raw diet for our dogs about two years ago. We got tired of the skin problems and the dogs chewing on their own feet and legs. Since we started the raw diet we haven't had any of these problems.

We use Costco's Kirkland brand as well. Our labradoodle loves it. Don't know if you have one close by.

We switched to "Taste of the Wild" and get it at TSC, took a few weeks to change the dogs over.

It has now been almost a year, they eat less, have more energy and their coat is fuller than before. We sometimes..well often, will add half can of dog food too, just because.

:thumbsup:I have two large canines that only eatt one brand of dry for a short time before they refuse it, they will dump it in the floor and push it with their noses. We rotate what dry food we get but we split a can of Alpo between them in the morning over their dry food then in the evening we feed Bil-Jac frozen food. It is mostly chicken and I have been feeding it for the last 3 dogs and haven't had any allergy prolems with it, or recalls like some brands have had. The cats will even eat it if they get a chance.

We have a border collie and a golden retriever, both 4 years old. Both developed terrible allergies, constant itching - hair loss. Multiple trips to the vet - allergy shots, cortisone pills etc. We were feeding Science Diet.

Early spring I decided to do a bit of research on dog foods. Imagine my surprise that Science Diet was only a two star food. In fact all Purina, Iams, and most other "popular / commonly sold" dog foods rated very low.

I switched to Whole Earth Farms, rated 4.5 stars, priced the same Science Diet. Happy to say that neither had allergies this summer. I am 100% convinced the allergies was caused by the Science Diet.

Bri, Be aware that some Wellness foods have products made by Diamond Pets Products,although I am not sure which ones. Diamond has been in the forefront for numerous violations and bacteria that have claimed many pets over the past couple years.

4 Health is made for TSC by Diamond also. Made my dogs gaseous, and prone to weight gain. When I found out is was made by Diamond, I switched to Nutro. Would not buy a Diamond product again after the 2005 fiasco.

Ol'Roy High Protien from WalMart. Our German Shepard lived 16 years on the stuff. The high protien variety will satify the dog sooner and they won't eat and poop as much. They consume more nutrition and eat less of the filler material. Compare the contents listed on the bags.

We had some itching issues a few years back. We switched to Purina One & have not had any problems with any of our dogs(4). TSP , Wallyworld & most big grocery stores carry it .....but TSP has the best price per lb.
