Does the BX25 use a BX23 engine?

I was copying my serial Nos. and such down into my manual for my BX25, and the engine had "D902-E3" and said BX23, instead of the "D902-E2-BX-2" that was printed in the manual. What gives?

Printed material is expensive to produce and is often used, even though super-ceded.

Other threads have said the engine off of the BX2360 is the same as the BX25, so...maybe.

Back midway through the BX23/BX2230 production run the engines were changed from the D905 to the D902. I believe the change in the B2230 was more limited.
As was pointed out it was due to the new emissions requirements and Kubota met them before it was required. I'm going to guess that they decided to change to the compliant engine as it was ready and GTG at that time.
Along w/the engine change the hp was upped an additional hp to 23 from 22. So some of the 30 series BX's have 22hp and others have 23hp.
If you look at the listings on Kubota's web site it lists the BX23 as 23hp. My BX23 has the D905 and all the literature that came w/it indicates 22hp.
The D902's were installed in the 50 series as well as in the new 60 series large BX's.
So in conclusion, yes, the D902 engine thats in your BX25 was also OEM'ed in the later model BX23/BX2230's.

I'd say the label on your engine is accurate whereas the literature in the manual can be suspect

I noticed too that the serial number on the engine of my neighbor's BX24 had a BX23 engine. Is this normal? Does this mean it was an early model BX24?

I am guessing that D902 is the engine with e2-e3 etc for emmissions and the BX23 part of the number is the configuration for such things as governed speed, charging systems, oil fill/ dipstick and engine mounting options. They use these engine in tractors, skid steers, generators excavators and UTVs.

Hi all,

While I was researching the BX product line I talked to two different dealerships. Both of them said the same thing. The BX2360 and the BX25 are essentially the same with the exception of the frame. The BX25 has a more rigid frame to accomidate the factory installed backhoe.

they have the same engine...The Bx23 is the same engine as the 24 and 25....And you are paying more for what now! LOL

They need to re-power the BX TBL here to get the money they want..
