Tires Does SLIME eat away at the inside of the tires????

What???, I have slime in all of our 4-wheeler tires for up to 6 years and have never replaced a tire. now my boys machines we end up replacing/ repairing bent rims quite often. I see the inside of a slimed tire a couple times a year atleast, no tire damage. My machine is the oldest and has had slime in the tires for atleast 6 year no flats and original tires. Some leg pulling going on,

I love slime, I put it in all my tires.

One problem I had was in my backhoe front tire. It had a large plug in it that was leaking and I put slime in the tire. This just made things worse and a slow leak turned into a big leak.

I took the tire to the tire place to get fixed. They said the hole was too big to plug and the slime ruined the inside of the tire for a patch. Once it's on the tire, a patch wouldn't stick.

I had to put a tube in.

I found several interesting facts. Slime is effective for 2 years according to mfg. Can be tightly sealed/stored for 3 yrs.

It may void your tire warranty.

It has been shown to corrode certain rims. (Aluminum - probably on found on the light weight racing tractors... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif )

They also don't recommend it in the back tires of tractors just fronts. (if they're loaded)

Good question. Sort of like me putting water sealer on my basement walls. Guaranteed 5 years, then what add more of sandblast and re-apply ???

FWC I don't know of any tire sealant that can be used in conjunction with filled tires. Course that is a good argument to use cast wheel weights instead of filled tires and then put the Slime in the tire where it can do some good. I ran it on my last tractor for 5 years and never had a flat. Before that the thorns got me on a regular basis. My tire repair guy wanted me to foam fill the tires. Then a bicycle repair shop gave me the right advice about using "Slime"

I have found two websites for a sealant for ballast loaded tires that claim to eliminate puncture problems. Has anyone here ever used them or do you have any knowledge of them?

After looking at both websistes, I wonder if they are the same product. Specs are identical, and description is very similar.

Interesting stuff. Didn't know any sealant for water or glycol-filled tires was available. Merits more research.
