I see your point about unions going a little too far. But what about corporations and CEO pay scales/bonuses. The working class sees these corporations/CEOs making record breaking profits since COVID and people are sick of breaking their backs and getting ripped off to line the golden pockets of their rich stakeholders.
At least a CEO is working for a company that produces a product. Union Bosses produce nothing, they are overhead for laborers that perform the work.

Apparently the strike has been averted. If this so then the demands of the union workers seem to be not excessive.

How dumb is America?
Dock strike starts and stores are running out of toilet paper!
We don't import toilet paper!
Did some internet rumor start it?
/edit -
looked it up:
So you must be one of the people looking for toilet paper. If you find some maybe limit it to 48 rolls so other paranoid people can get some.
We've got enough for a while. I'm sure the prices will be going up.

Something that I'd like to know is, how has their pay changed in the last 10-20 years?
$5/hr increase each year of the contract sounds like a lot by itself - but that's from the view point of assuming that the number you're starting at is reasonable and has been keeping up with COL consistently.
If their wages haven't been keeping up for a long time, then that increase could easily be seen to be reasonable.

About anti-union sentiments: Get rid of unions and you'll be working 80 hours a week in unsafe conditions before you know it. Though I've never worked in a unionized segment of the workforce, unions are the reason that vast majority of us have any semblance of "work-life balance" and are unlikely to be maimed on the job, and anti-union forces are frothing at the bit to work us all to the bone, and it's absolutely disgusting to see hard working men in jobs that used to kill their workers regularly kissing the licking the bosses boots as if they're going to get anything other than a ruined life out of it.

I'm all for keeping an eye on union bosses - organized crime connections, enriching themselves at the workers' expense, but these are largely boogeymen raised up to scare workers away from being in unions; meanwhile anti-union companies have employed all kinds of illegal action including violence and corrupt politicians of their own to get private militia and public military invovled in busting strikes but you rarely hear about that when people talk about the evils of unions.
It's true when it is said that the middle class built America and unions built the middle class.

So what are your thoughts on the dock strike in general? I heard on the news that the workers make from $21-$40 per hour and are asking for 77% increase. As well as no automation allowed ever...

Down here where I'm from there are no unions. From my vantage point I don't see a lot of necessity for unions. I think - years ago - they were designed to make workplaces safer, to force standardization of pay and to keep workers out of "bondage" - company store kind of thing. I feel like they accomplished their goal and have moved beyond far beyond that. It seems like if they are allowed cart blanch, they could kill the industries they are integrated into.
I am in union working at UPS. My first involvement with union. Still don't follow or try to understand it all but some thoughts since being there almost a year. If the work I did wasn't union and UPS had to maintain the employees on there own they would not have any people working. I feel the work is brutal and I come off from a farm. Working in a hay mow all day is easier than many days at UPS. I'm a preloader that loads trucks for delivery. Approx. 4/5 hours daily 5 days a week though it goes up drastically during peak(Xmas) and 6 days. Pay is $21 which is good for this area and I have full health insurance that I do not pay for. Where else can I work part time and have no cost insurance(except union dues) and that wasn't even the reason I started there just a side benefit.

I noticed that since UPS settled with the union and the big pay increases, very few of my deliveries are made by UPS and I see fewer brown delivery trucks on the road.

You have my work ethic respect.
My “side hustle” is property maintenance. Cleaning up fallen trees, mowing areas that are not hayed, etc.
It gets tougher with each passing year.

PM me if I can ever be a helpful listener.

Same here. Notice lots of different looking cars & inconsistent delivery people each time. Our steady, dependable UPS guy will chat for a minute with me sometimes when I see him. He said he’s retiring and on his way out.
Told me the FedEx guys are really pushed hard and suffering.
